Let's discuss one of the most interesting countries on the African continent. What do you know about Ethiopian history?
Some starters:
>Is one of the oldest Christian countries, having adopted it in the 4th century
>One of the only nations in Africa to resist colonialisation
>Only country in Africa with its own unique alphabet
>First country to cultivate coffee
>Is apparently the final resting place for the biblical Ark of the Covenant.
>Build churches in a way that just seems impractical
>>72115
all that I know is that they are the worst african country with even worse iq scores than other africans.

>emperor of Ethiopia kidnaps a few British subjects because the Queen didn't accept his love letters
>the British spend 9 million pounds (1868 i.e. the equivalent of like 30 billion pounds today) just to get them back
>build a port from scratch and march through the interior telling every local to stay the fuck out of their way
>6 months later after entering a completely unknown foreign land finally reach the centre
>besiege the emperor in his mountain fortress
>he commits suicide with a gun sent to him by Queen Victoria
>give a shit load of armaments to one of the Ethiopians who let them past who uses them to go on and become the first modern leader of Ethiopia
>>72187
Why? Would you rather I ask a very specific question about Ethiopia that will muster 5 replies before the thread dies? This way we can have a general discussion of Ethiopia's history for those that are interested.

The Afars broke that 200 years ago
Not hating on Ethiopia's military but a lot of their wins could be attributed to Russia or other communist nations.

>Yemeni diplomatic victory
Anybody read any of Stuart Munro-Hay's papers on Axum?
>>75786
I confess I'm not well versed on international affairs and wars, what does it really mean when they say "diplomatic victory"?
>>76090
It's been awhile since I read them, but I remember being really impressed with the importance of Axum as an ancient civilization after I had read some of his stuff. Trade between Axum (which at the time controlled the port of Adulis) was far reaching and seemed fairly important in the ancient world.
