I know that most nations in times of war are involved in atrocities of some sort, but is there any reason as to why Imperial Japan was particularly so ... cruel?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_war_crimes
>>
bump, come on someone probably has a good reply for this. ;-;
>>
Japs consider the Chinese subhumans
>>
>war """crimes"""
>>
>>720786
none of these happened, all korean mistification
>>
I dont know but i would propose it had something to do with the fanaticism of the regular imperial Japanese solider. Its like nearly everyone in the jap army was on par or more fanatic then the SS.

That itself thought might just be a symptom of the root cause, if there is one.
>>
China was less developed than Russia and had more dense populations, also the war had been going on for much longer.
>>
I find it especially strange considering how kind and polite the Japanese are nowadays. Maybe they just go to the extremes of whatever situation they're in?
>>
>>723390

trying to play nice so the Chinese don't come back and rek their shit
>>
>>723293
I kek'd
>>
jap mentality at the time + noone in authority cared or bothered to stop them

also they were bogged down in China for a long time, maybe they thought they could terrorise the chinese into submission or something
>>
>>720786
There is a cultural explanation. Samurai ethos dictated that anyone who surrendered was less than human, and therefore not deserving of any kind of dignity. Even though the samurai days were over, after the meiji restoration, all japanese across social rank could say" we are all samurai now". Also, thier religion, which stressed the triviality of death and the transience of life, gave a unique outlook to thier soldiers.
>>
Being taught there were litterally a godly race + seeing the Chinese as sub-human + frustration, and authorities not caring enough to keep it in control
>>
We must remember the fate of the russian POWs from the battle of tsushima.

I mean, they were captured and when they were released....

...everyone got a bag with 4 different sorts of tea in it as a farewell gift.

Your photograph is a poor composite picture which has different directions of shadow.
Why do you use a forgery photograph to insist on the truth?

I remember someone posting a copypasta, back in the first days of /his/, about the weird stuff going on in Japan at this era.

It was about how the Japanese Empire was built by gangsters and prostitutes who've read too much guro.
>>
>>720786
>>723390
This happens when a fanatic officer corps with visions of greatness leads a country.
Until after WW1 Imperial Japan was just another colonial power with exemplary treatment of POWs.
>>723308
The regular "drafted" soldier had no choice to play along so to speak. Soldiers would already be beaten for no real reasons so you can imagine what would happen to them for disobeying an order.
>>
In reality WWII probably had atrocities on both sides but history is written by the victors and whatever shit the allies did went on undocumented or just remained hidden.

The Eugenics movement and a lot of its greatest contributors were in America way before the theory spread to Europe where it eventually was adopted by Hitler. America was a pretty good trade partner with Germany and the American National Socialist party was no joke at the time. People were enamored with how Germany turned itself around after the war and were looking for a similar miracle back home to deal with the economic downturn that we now simply refer to as "The Great Depression". Socialists obviously blamed the wealthy for the disarray in America's economy... and there was a pretty serious threat of revolution at the time.

Americans purposefully embargoed Japan in the Pacific to limit their sphere of influence, stationing their naval fleet on what was essentially occupied territory at the time (Hawaii). History textbooks at least mention Japanese internment camps in passing, but I don't think they go into much detail over how the feds basically confiscated property based on racist doctrine. A lot of Chinese and Korean immigrants were also effected. People lost their shit and once the war was over had nothing to return to. This is what we know back home, at least.

Americans in particular were seen as hypocritical by the Japanese and German propaganda machine because of how they treated black citizens and other minorities in their own country. The whole 'dey were evil rayciss' argument worked because it was a half truth, but in reality the Americans weren't that much better themselves.

It's important to remember that media and freedom of the press was very limited back then, and while kids are taught about propaganda and how the Germans and Japs used it to shape public perception during the war, they're never taught that introspective in their own country.

Japs committed war crimes against everyone, including Americans and Europeans.
>>
>>724999
if there is armed forces which had not committed war crime, tell me please .
attach evidences if possible.
>>
>>725730
Japan scored very high on the war crime scale even compared to other armed forces. You have to go all the way back to like the Mongols probably to find someone scoring in their percentile.
>>
Japs were stopped too many times in china.

The emperor then told the soldiers to be as savage as possible
>>
>>727018
I do not know whether the war crimes of others armed forces were inspected.
So I think that those have not been done precisely yet.
What are the grounds that you can say so?

>>727121
If the Emperor really had said so, the Japanese empire forces would have committed the war crimes that even anti-Japan propaganda looks inferior in a scale.

Not denying that the war crimes happened, but has anybody else noticed ridiculous Korean historiography is? Like they often just make shit up, and nazi/showa tier racism is in the mainstream in Korea to this day.

To deny Nanjing massacre is not same as to deny the number (300, 000) of victims in Nanjing.
I think groundless impression and the propaganda should be removed as much as possible in /his/.

>>724999
Why wouldnt Nips consider whites subhuman, especially those whites who would dishonor themselves and their families so much by surrendering?
>>
>>723390
Notice that its the same with Germany...
>>
Even today, when you are in the process of boarding a plane, the chatterbox Chinese, Korean and Filipino businessmen will suddenly silence themselves when Japanese businessmen appear to take their seat. Such is the awe and fear Nippon inspires in her neighbors' souls.

WW2 wasn't a mistake. Nobody fucks with Japan to this day. If anything, the lesser races don't start shining the shoes of their overlords, so a bit of whipping is still needed.
>>
Pause for a moment and reflect upon the facts.
Japan got bombed.
By a couple of largish ones.
With the press of a button one mans decision affected the lives of hundreds of thousands of people for many decades.
This we must agree is horrific in itself and dwarfs anything before and anything probably in the future for mankind.
Pause for a moment and grasp the idea that a human can hold this power....this should never happen again.
>>
Notice how all through history, any nation that is defeated always seems to commit more crimes than the nation that won.

Coincidence?

>>732194
>Reflect upon the facts

That Japan killed millions of Chinese, attacked the United States from behind and got what was coming to them?
>>
>>732209
yep, all those children who were burnt to death or worse sure got what was coming to them all right
>>
>>732216
You are missing the part where Japan refused to surrender

those were some determined children anon

Yes, that's how it tends to work if you announce your country won't surrender to the last man and you are willing to sacrifice your entire population
>>
>>732253
anon they literally killed kids i dont think you're getting this
>>
>>732258
And so did the Japanese when they invaded China.

The atomic bombings were horrifying but Japan had many chances to surrender before they happened.

well, you were probably implying something with a lot less nuance than that

Nah, the Good in humanity usually triumphs over evil.
>>
>>732299
Not that anon but, do you think it would have been more moral to kill every japanese soldier? Even without the nuclear bomb civilian casualties always happen, and the napalm bombing killed a bunch of people, dont know the exact number though.
>>
I always thought it was funny to call them war crimes.

Isn't the point of a war to upset and demolish your enemy? If Japan wanted to subjugate nations into their empire how is it a war crime? Killing the enemy soldiers isn't a crime, so why isn't killing the enemy populace held to the same standard.
>>
>>732496
to add: I definitely think the actions of the japanese are savage and cruel, but isn't that the purpose of war? To exercise brutality?
>>
>>732201
Yes, but FDR didn't proclaim before the war he would annihilate an entire group of people.

i laughed.
>>
>>732495
why are you acting like there's only those two choices there? this is a very common response and I think it comes from some kind of cognitive dissonance
>>
>>732496
Because human beings as far back as in biblical times had agreements on how wars should be waged.

And in more modern times you the Hague Conventions (of which both Germany and Japan had signed) and later the Geneva Conventions which outlined how wars should be fought, and set what are known as war crimes.
