Should the humanities be taught to all members of society? Or should it be the domain of specialists like, in a sense, science? How do you feel about the oft prophesied "death of the liberal arts"?

Pic related, Sophia, goddess of philosophy.

Sorry. Wrong pic.

The western canon is problematic and triggering, we should teach slam poetry instead.
>>
All people should simply be taught literacy and how to learn. Everything else is for fun.

I think it's fine with how it is right now. In my experience in American High School, 4 semesters of History were required. There were lots of humanity electives but none were absolutely required. That gives students a good foundation in History and an opportunity to learn more about the humanities. Forcing kids to study things there don't care about (that aren't part of a basic education) is never a good idea.

People should be taught cognitive biases and a bit of philosophy, maybe rationalism vs empiricism and virtue ethics.

Average person doesn't know shit about how irrational they are, and how to be virtuous

Nope, it was just gas.

Holy shit this. I will never understand how any piercings beyond the ear have ever been considered aesthetically pleasant by anyone.

Just checking out the wiki about earring history, seems it had more practical roots than aesthetic.

If anything, body piercings were probably purely aesthetic, historically.

The only ones that I don't get are the ones they get on the tongue.

Also, you should go out more.

If you teach one theory of ethics, you should at least teach alternatives like Utilitarianism, Kantean ethics and the like. Although I agree with you in general.

Same thing happens to me. Piercings turn me off immediately.
