Renowned as a cultural high point for China even more so than the Tang, introduced the Confucian exam system and a number of dubious practices as well (i.e foot binding)

Had an absolutely garbage tier military that couldnt even defend its botders so the Song became experts at diplomacy and payed off tribes which worked well until Genghis united them.

Kind of funny since they basically invented firearms.

Oh for sure, the Song invented not just Gunpowder but A LOT of technologically sound good ideas. The Song Period armor for one thing which is *the* Mainland East Asian armor that was used by Chinese, Nomads, Viets, and Koreans.

Its just technological competency isnt everything in war/military.
But technological

Which dynasty created an huge irrigation system that allowed for multiple rice harvest every year and in so doing doubled the population of China, which in turn lead to a shit tonne more specialists developing cutting edge technology like gunpowder and the printing press?

What kind of man really was Liu Bei ? The romance always try to make him an exemplary man, but it doesn't feel right, since he spent his time betraying everyone.

Very distant relative of the Imperial Clan. That's all. Pretty much noticed by Imperial authorities when he led a private militia along with his sworn bros in the Yellow Turban Rebellion. Afterwards he was given a minor government post.

But he was an administrative genius and was also charismatic. Leading to his rise.

Arguable the best time period in Chinese history. I quite like their visual arts too.

Most of their famous inventions date from that time.

Movable type printing, commercialism, blast furnace, gunpowder and much much much much more.

Then it all went to shit and they were largely unrivaled for a few centuries in Asia.

Crash Course said that the first Chinese dynasty was a fabrication to establish a precedent of losing the Mandate of Heaven. Do some people within China or elsewhere still believe that first dynasty is real?

Why didn't I learn anything about Chinese history in school? All I remember reading about was that one time Western powers invaded to smack up the Boxer uprising. Is the Eurocentrism real?

The first Chinese dynasty had nothing to do with fabricating the mandate of heaven.

The Mandate of Heaven came about during the very traumatic fall of the Shang Dynasty. Prior the Empire, and prior feudal China, China was ruled by a theocracy: the Shang Dynasty. Whose rule derived from priest-kings.

This dynasty was toppled by the Zhou Dynasty in one of the first recorded acts of rebellion by the Chinese. This devastated the Chinese as their priest-kings who supposedly had a direct line to the Gods were fucking overthrown. The Mandate of Heaven is a product of soul searching by the Zhou - the cunts who rebelled in the first place- trying to understand why their Gods allowed them to win against their appointed rulers.

Logic therefore dictated that "maybe they allowed us to win because they were pissed off with the decadence and corruption of the Shang." Which leapt to "Maybe they wanted us to win."
>>
>>614183
Yeah, Crash Course said the Xia Dynasty was made up by the Zhou to justify the overthrow of the Shang. The Zhou made up the events of the Shang overthrow of the Zhou in order to manufacture a precedent of dynasties being overthrown, when in fact it had never happened before because the Shang were the actual first dynasty.

It's irrelevant for the average person in your country.
>>
>>614248
So is most human history.
>>
>>614258
And most human history isn't told at schools.
>>
>>614269
And yet they teach it despite its irrelevance, hence the argument that Chinese history isn't taught because it isn't relevant is bad.

Relevance to modern history doesn't determine what is taught in history courses, the relevance to Europe is what matters. History courses only cover European events and only deviate from that when teaching about periods before Europe had written history, and even then they only cover the civilizations that played a part in influencing European history. India and China don't exist in most primary school history textbooks until Vasco da Gama.
>>
>>614289
>the relevance to Europe is what matters

In Europe. Or is chinese history not told in China?

It wasnt a fabrication. They literally had to come up with some explanation as how their priest kings-god appointed- fucking failed them. One could equate Mandate of Heaven as a something similar to a revolution in religious doctrine for the Chinese.

Because the Shang derived its legitimacy similar to Pharaonic Egypt: the King is of the Gods. His word is the word of the Gods. Toppling the word of the Gods blew the minds of Chinese back then. There must be some explanation.

The eternal anglo sure strikes again.

Shakespeare possibly is the most Asian of Western writers given that his plays are all "Lets make a story out of this historical event." Which is 3 out of the 4 great novels of China. And also similar to Japan's first novels.

"Nietzsche and Zhuangzi paused,
stepped off of Cliff's Edge
into the pointlessness
of universal or absolute meaning.

"Bottomless!!", cried Nietzsche
in despair, overcome with
existential angst, the sensation
of vertigo, of nothingness!

And plunged head first into the
a-byss.

"Weightless!!", exclaimed Zhuangzi
delighted, freed from Convention
"And if an abyss is bottomless,
there is no falling!"

And watched Cliff's Edge floating
a-way."

Nietzsche BTFO.

The Ming actually was welcoming of western experts. Just in manageably quotas and under supervision.

The Imperial Arsenal is a good example of this. Jesuits were working with Scholars in devising artillery pieces.

The Japanese bought them and made them.

Foreign goods threatened Chinese markets. The Qing Emperor shut down all trade with the outside world.

The Japanese tried to do something similar after the Portuguese tried to setup a Catholic puppet regime. An American Admiral (Perry) sailed over to Japan, blew their ships out of the water, then dragged the Shogun and Emperor out of their palaces and made them accept non-Dutch merchants.
