As this anon >>586325 noted they did but that was among a subset of the pop. who were likely to react in that way. Te reason it wasn't more widespread was probably because for the farmer who made up much of Englands pop. at the time religion was less important to them then the harvest, making sure thy has their material needs taken care of etc. Farming and taking care of farm animals is actually pretty hard work and if you heard that the king who you had never even met was changing some things about how the church worked you probably wouldn't even care that much since there were not much practical changes in terms of going to church.
