ITT: Post game ideas that revolve around your country/region's history

>American Civil War Action/Adventure game or RPG
>You start out as a young man in Sylvania in 1861
>Soon after the game starts, your impoverished family moves north to Atlanta to look for a better life, leaving you to take care of the farm
>The first months of the game (in-game time) are just first-person harvest moon with lighthearted sidequests to let the player get to know the town and people
>Come Spring 1862
>Mayor falls ill, gives you his horse to go to Savannah for medicine
>Arrive in Savannah in early April, just in time to watch the aftermath of the siege of Fort Pulaski
>Small segment of the game in which the player can free-roam around Savannah, Wilmington Island, Oatland Island, Skidaway Island, and Whitemarsh Island
(cont.)
>>
>After procuring the medicine, the player heads back to Sylvania where the mayor lets the player keep his horse as thanks
>Alternatively, the player can sneak onto Tybee Island and join the Union military, where he is then stationed in Boston and advances the storyline by participating in battles in the Eastern American South (the first of which will be the capture of New Orleans) until 1864, roaming the entire New England Countryside for side quests
>Get to see the snowy hills of Northern Appalachia
>Occasionally have to defend territory fronts from invading Sioux
>Taverns play comfy music like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORsNiReoCsw
>If the player doesn't figure this out, there will be another chance to join the Union at a later date
>After saving the mayor, some Confederate soldiers come through town looking for conscripts
>Get on a train to Nawlins
>Lose battle, get captured
>Player can either escape with a Confederate soldier or stay with the Union and become a Union soldier, triggering the above Union storyline
>If Confederate, the player then gets to roam the western American South, with each state being at least 4 or 5 square km in-game, taking part in battles from Arizona to Louisiana
>Get to see the beautiful nature east of the Mississippi
>Taverns play comfy war songs for either side depending on location, like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAfHigPsC_s
>Get to see the western deserts
>Locations of previous battles don't restore - all battle marks and corpses remain and slowly are carted out or rot over the course of the game
>If the player doesn't want to do the FPS gameplay, they can always get a sword and fight the Union charges with a sabre
>Mix gunplay with martial arts and cannons
>>
>After the campaign has advanced to 1864, if in the Union, the player joins Sherman's army, and if Confederate, the player gets captured at Laredo Texas and is held at St. Louis PoW Camp
>If Union, player watches as his family's house is burnt by Sherman's troops, player can intervene and either save his family or get himself killed for treason
>If Confederate, player escapes just in time to return to the South and find Atlanta's smoking ruins
>Last third of the game takes place in Western American South (Kentucky down to Mississippi over to Virginia and Georgia) as the player takes on battles for whichever side of the war they chose, either watching their beloved country get destroyed or the fruits of their labor ripen, depending on whichever side they are.
>Player advances storyline by taking part in Civil War battles, but can just free-roam and sidequest too
>Get to see the beautiful nature of Appalachia
>Get to explore comfy cities like Savannah and Charleston
>Every time the player enters a tavern, comfy music like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSi6RyS4a0Q is playing
>Player can go explore the mountains, fight bears, or work on their old farmstead in their free time
>Game world in all areas is super densely packed with interesting things to see or do, with lore about the lives of people at the time scattered all over
>Campaign ends with the battle of Appatamox Courthouse
>>
>Player can choose where they want to live
>Small epliogue to the game in which the player gets to roam New England, the American South, the Wild West, or the Northwestern front and settle their new life, adding maybe 15 or 20 hours into the endgame
>A few more sidequests and a small epilogue storyline depending on where player chose to stay, with a Clint Eastwood-like dramatic action-adventure gunslinging ending for choosing the West, a town building game-like gameplay scheme for the northwest (where the player has to either eradicate or reconcile with natives), a depressing, harvest moon-like ending for the South, or a business management-type epilogue for the northeast wherein the main character tries to start a business
>After successfully completing the game, the entire game world opens up for exploration, but, unless some of the late-game sidequests weren't completed (as some sidequests will become unavailable after certain dates in-game) or some of the world's hidden secrets weren't found, there won't be much to do other than boring and vapid Minecraft-tier stuff
Think of it like The Legend of Zelda meets Battlefield meets Harvest Moon meets Morrowind

Anyways, that's my idea.
What are your historical game ideas, /his/?

I really like this. However, it would be really difficult to portray a Southern plantation in an authentic way. People would get mad no matter what you did.
>>
American Civil War fucking sucks, but the 40 or so antebellum years leading up to it are fucking awesome.

What would we do?
Fight injuns? Raid ferries?

While actually a good idea, a FPS would be really bad for a Civil War game. It would not capture the spirit of the war. Call me a weeb, but the old PS3 game Valkyria Chronicles did a good job with a turn based fantasy WWII game. A grand scale turn based game would not be a bad idea in my opinion, even better if it was completely based on reality.
>>
>>811987
I'd rather take an FPS/TPS without the gameplay built around shooting, but rather around movement, like a Mario game with guns.
The problem with turn-based is that it fails to capture the environments or the bloodiness of the battles and how brutal they were.
>>
>>811985
Run a plantation.
>>
Sometimes I wish the south won. Am I a bad person you guys? The ideal and aesthetic of southern aristocracy, gallantry, honor. But no good old abe lincoln and his merry band of jigaboo lovers just couldn't let them alone and fucking ruined everything. The south is a shit hole now. Thanks obama.
>>
>>811987
>While actually a good idea, a FPS would be really bad for a Civil War game.

Yep. See Call of Juarez 2, the first two levels are set during a Civil War battle but since the gunplay would be completely fucktarded they had go with completely anachronistic weapons.
>>
>>812014
If the South won it would end up looking like Rhodesia, as in ending up with a 90% nigger population and at that point it doesn't matter whether they're in chains or not, they would get fucked.

North were the good guys plain and simple. What they did wrong was not deport all the blacks back to Africa after the war, that was a major fuckup decision or lack thereof.

Nahh. As long as you actually have a battlefield with a large number of people on it, cannons, cavalry charges, and swordplay, it would be amazing.
Especially when you have to decide on either dropping the musket and finding a good place to stage a stand with your sword or keeping the gun and finding a safe place to reload among the chaos.
>>
Kind of similar to yours

>1865
>be a young confederate soldier at the close of the war
>opens on a battle, where you learn all of the basic controls
>the Confederacy surrenders, you go home
>most of your family has been killed by Yankee soldiers (as all video game heroes' are)
>swears revenge
>Reconstruction holds sway in the south
>protagonist decides to never make peace with the Union and instead dedicate whatever remains of his life to fighting the damn carpetbaggers, Republicans, and Union army occupiers
>free roam through the Deep South
>revenge yourself on the yankees every chance you get
>build up a gang of unreconstructed rebels (multiplayer maybe?)
>eventually become wanted as an outlaw
>use guerrilla and terrorist tactics to ambush Federal soldiers and/or intimidate the local carpetbaggers
>dodge the Union's attempts to capture and hang you

I don't know what the actual plot would be but I have a vision of the climax consisting of you inciting a riot in some city against the local Union garrison.
>>
>>812014
>The ideal and aesthetic of southern aristocracy, gallantry, honor.

You know that was a bunch of romanticized nonsense that didn't exist right?
>>
>>812030
So basically Mount & Blade but with additional cannons shelling your shit? Fuck that.
>>
>>812034
Not him but it kind of did, the problem is it didn't concern more than 0.5% of population at best, mostly based in South Carolina.

Vast majority of slaveowners, even very wealthy ones were not these Victorian aristocratic gentlemen but basically just rednecks with money. Think something like the western cattle barons but with niggers instead of cattle.
>>
>grand strategy game
>start beginning of 19th century
>pick a European Great Power to command
>control both domestic policies, infrastructure, etc. and foreign policy/colonization/diplomacy
>race other Great Powers to colonize Africa, trade with Asia, build alliances, deal with ethnic nationalism, etc
>game goes up to 1914 or 1918
>ultimate goal is to position your country as best as possible in anticipation of WWI, or use your diplomatic/political skills to prevent war from breaking out

Rough sketch of my idea, but if a game like this existed I would play it 24/7, try out different strategies, explore different what-ifs leading up to the Great War.
>>
>>812055
Are you trolling? You literally just described Victoria 2.

How about the game that revolves around Russian revolution with non-battle focused game mechanic where you can do undercover work or propaganda of your ideas? You can lead party to power, there would be inner party intrigues, years long plans to dethrone the Czar. Something between Republic: Revolution or Crusader Kings in Russian Empire. You can play as communist, loyalists, anarchists and other guys.
>>
>Russian Civil War game
>start as a soldier on the Eastern front watching your comrades get butchered by the Germans
>Russia is shaken by revolution in February 1917
>head back home like so many others
>times are a changing
>in October the Bolsheviks launch their coup
>alliances are solidified
>a Civil War is brewing
>either fight to crush the red menace or labor to build the world's first socialist state as an example for the workers of the world to follow
>lots of battles in the Russian countryside and in the Ukraine
>very violent and grim atmosphere
>>
>>812061
Sheeeeeiiiiit somehow I'd never heard of it before. This is exactly what I've been looking for. thanks!
>>
>>812071
Enjoy, have personally sunk 400+ hours into it
>>
>>811845

I think an American Civil War game could work if you do it right.

Base it on the life of Elisha Hunt Rhodes; a real person who worked his way up through the war and was practically everywhere.

Mix strategy with FPS. The challenge in FPS would be reloading your musket in time.

Skill upgrade would be loading faster, switching to cartridge rounds, rifled barrels, etc

Strategy would be setting up picket lines etc.

Game play would take you through the whole war.
>>
>>812041
I actually haven't played Mount and Blade.
Do you have any webms that show the gameplay?
I can tell you if it's close to what I'm thinking or not.
Again, I'd like the combat to, while being in a First-Person View, play more like Zelda with guns. None of that stupid crouch-to-dodge-gunshots crap in CoD orthat Skyrim crap where two people are swinging swords in each-other's faces slowly chipping away at healthbars.
If swords are swung, they'll cross. If a man gets hit by a bullet anywhere other then the forearm or foot, he's dead or on borrowed time.
If you get shot, you're done.

Wokou Simulator 1592
Play as a pirate captain in the East China Sea and South Asia and vie with both fellow pirates, government fleets and european trading companies for control over the East in the last century where Asian shipbuilding could compare with European shipbuilding. Build fleet and in locales such as Formosa, the Philippine Islands, Kyushu or Hainan, and either intimidate, bribe or fight your way into the service of local governments.

Major Factions include:
>Dutch
>English Pirates and Privateers
>Japan under Toyotomi Hideyoshi (and, later, Tokugawa Ieyasu)
>Joseon Korea
>Ming China
>Portugese Traders
>The Spanish Philippines and the Spanish Treasure Fleet
>The Ryukyu Kingdom
>Wokou

You can choose and customize between ships such
>the Spanish Galleons
>the Dutch Fluyt
>the Korean Panokseons,
>Chinese Junks,
>the Japanese Fune,
among other ship types.

The game is meant to simulate pirate captains such as Zheng Zilong, Koxinga and Shirahama Kenki, who were often strong enough to defeat government fleets such as those of the Dutch and Ming Chinese, or even create their kingdoms (such as Ming Formosa under Koxinga).
>>
>>812034
>pretty plantations were a lie

jesus christ, yankees would rather bite their own tongue off before saying anything positive about the south
>>
>>812159
The first part of the game would be moving your way up the ranks--mutinying or being promoted up in a Wokou or English Pirate Fleet, earning the financial backing of a wealthy Cantonese merchant family (Zheng Zilong), fucking your way into piracy (Ching Shih), deserting from a losing battle with your ships (Koxinga) or receiving your letter of Marque from England or the Dutch.

You'd then start accruing ships through raiding smaller trading ships or fleets (or hunting down fellow wokou/pirates), selling your contraband to finance new ship construction or bribing local Ming governors to pass on their patrol vessels to you.

Once your fleet is large enough you can start challenging larger pirate fleets or intervening in actual wars between national fleets (i.e. blockade running for the Japanese forces in Korea, raiding the Spanish Treasure Fleets coming from the New World) and straight up bullying local governments to recognize your de facto control over major shipping lanes, or islands in which you already exert control, to become a Daimyo, Governor or Lord. As representatives of nations without territories (the Dutch and English) you can seize and colonize islands in their name. You can go as far as to proclaim your own nation (i.e. the Kingdom of Tungning) and wrangle the loyalties of lesser factions such as the Ryukyu or arab trading colonies in malaya.

I would love a competitive FPS based on something like this.

>Official denomination: Steel Cannon 8 cm, short breech loaded model 1874 (Plasencia)

>Small cylindrical cannon, generally used for mountain terrain, developed by Commander Plasencia, during the 3rd Civil War (1872-1876). It is made of Krupp steel 8 cm (3 ") internal diameter, breech-loading, lockable screw. The wheels are wooden bucket with iron hoops reinforcement. It could be pulled by mule or a horse, or loaded disarmed in parts.

>Weight of the gun: 102 kg, total length: 1.01 m

>Personnal: In the document signed by Governor Manuel Macias, it appears that there were 40 artillerymen in Mayagüez (between officers and soldiers) with 15 horses. Knowing that this group of artillery had only 2 small Plasencia model cannons, it looked to us, by our crass ignorance on these subjects and by looking at it with a modern point of view, that there was too many people and horses for such little artillery. Conveyed our concern, Artillery Colonel Francisco Rodriguez Padron this gives us light on the matter:

>The artillery group at Mayagüez may have been composed as follows:
>Officials: 1 lieutenant
>Sub-officials: 4 gun officials (2 per cannon), 1 administrator, 1 mechanic
>Each cannon had at a minimum: Breech closer, 1 aim specialist, 1 loader, 1 supplier, 1 shooter. Total: 5 gunners by cannon for a big total of 10 gunners (5 x 2 guns).
>Now we have to put some cook (2), a doctor (1), some auxiliary mechanical (1) 1 quartermaster , 1 auxiliary administration, any ordinance (1), 4 orderlies, and possibly some gunner more in security missions (1 corporal and 4 gunners).
>Each cannon was transported disassembled into 5 parts, and each part was carried by a horse, therefore you need 5 horse rider by cannon, therefore 10 horse rider in total. The other 5 horses were used by the lieutenant and the sub-officials.

The cannons were probably carried assembled like pic related, to have space for food and clothes.

A game with a combination of mechanics from Shogun 2 Total War, Kessen, and Romance of the Three Kingdos. Setting doesn't have to be East Asia either.

You recruit soldiers into mishmashed units, let them fight and gain experience, gear, officers, etc, that increase their stats gradually from a generic base, ideally so that no two units of soldiers are exactly alike. Your control of an army comes down to your officers who you appoint and give orders to before and during a long drawn out battle with lots of maneuvering and keeping morale high through a grueling hours long or days long battle. The ability of your army to fight and its strategic goals are determined by the resources you manage to acquire and distribute before the next engagement.

>>
Mine isn't as in depth, but I could elaborate later.
>Act 1 is in Vietnam, a few months before the Tet Offensive
>Start in Saigon, where you can pick up additional objectives, customize your gear, and meet your squadmates
>After this short introduction, you're dropped along the Cambodian border with a list of targets/objectives
>Free POWs, ambush supply lines, assassinate commanders, etc.
>radio base on occassion for supply drops, new objectives, so on and so forth
>during some recon on a POW camp your squad gets ambushed
>A few guys die, the rest of you are captured
>Live in the P.O.W camp for a few months, making connections with other prisoners and planning your escape
>during a monsoon, you and your team leader finally break out
>you have to trek back to Vietnam
>surviving off the land, evading NVA patrols
>At one point the commander breaks his leg, so you have to aid him to the best of your capabilities (or put him out of his misery)
>Later, you get caught by a tripwire
>Swinging trap breaks your elbow
>While you're bleeding out, a SASR unit finds you
>Get airlifted back to Saigon
>Get a few medals and an honorable discharge

Will work on acts 2 and 3 tomorrow
>>
I had another idea for my Civil War game - maybe there could be a New Game + where a new storyline opens up for either side of the war.
If Confederate, the player can join the navy in 1863 instead of fighting in Texas and ride the CSS Shenandoah, exploring parts of Great Britain, Australia, and Alaska while doing sidequests at those stops and engaging in naval battles along the way.
For the Union, the player can join the Union Navy at New Orleans and engage in Naval warfare until 1864, where the game continues as usual from there.
>>
>>813426
Since that's somewhat unbalanced in favor of Confederate gameplay, the Union navy players can get a small sailboat of their own with which they can explore previously unreachable areas like the marsh barrier islands and even the northern Caribbean, opening up new sidequests in those areas, too.
>>
I'd love to see CDPR tackle the other, relatively unkown, series by Sapkowski called the Hussite Trilogy. It's 3/4th historical 1/4th folk fantasy story set in Silesia and Bohemia around the time of Hussite Wars. It's an extremely interesting conflict that gets little to none coverage in the west.

I'm just modding civ5 for some unit variety and more techs in eras.
Like Hussar, Cuirassier, Dragoon and Uhlans as the real final cavalry before tanks take over, instead of just "Cavalry".
Would appreciate on tips.
Not quite sure what to do with Uhlans if they should have extra damage vs cavalry or do something different with them.

Have some more stuff in earlier eras too. Like Slingers and Javliners alongside Archers.
I think Slingers will generally be weaker, but have a bonus to undamaged units, and Javelins will have shorter range but with a bonus to Fortified units.
To symbolize slingers softening up units and javeliners messing up shields.

Would like to make a historical 4x on my won with focus on terrain, environment, climate, animals/domestication and population though.

I would rather have Ultimate General: Gettysburg meets Grand Strategy.

Basically, you can play as either the CSA or USA, run every administrative aspect of your faction, create armies, recruit historical commanders/units, and fight in-depth, full scale battles. Would also have plenty of historical battles to choose from.

Basically a more complicated/in-depth Total War that sacrifices pretty graphics for autistic realism.

RTS game using same engine as Battle for Middle Earth 2.It would be called forgotten wars or some shit like that. You start the game and you have screen divided into 5 different pictures where you choose what game to play. For example Crimean war,First Balkan war,Spanish civil war,Yom Kippur war and Falklands. Each faction is detailed, with unique units and buildings, with long campaigns and random map gameplay option..Second part comes out with Franco Prussian war,Russian civil war,South african border war and Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.Possibilities are endless.

>Third person action game with a focus on combat.
>Sort of like a third person shooter but with melee weapons
>Set in a world in which Rome never fell, Vikings formed a great Empire in Scandinavia, Mongols conquered all of Asia and an Aztec Empire controls America etc.
>Basically the world is some Warhammer level shit but with real historical cultures.
>You play as a Roman Centurion and your job is to purge all who attempt to invade the Empire.
>Units are stylised and not meant to reflect reality. For example Viking Bersekers have the horned helmets and get around in huge Dragon shaped boats, Aztec warriors dress as Quetzacoatl and wear feathers and shit. Romans are a cross between the old styles of Roman armour and the Medieval European style

The game would basically be Ryse except good and with all sorts of 300 level insanity and ahistorical wankery.
