Is there any specific reason as to why Americans feared/hated communism so much during the 20th century or was it just the result of the general assumption that it was the antithesis of democracy?
>>
Why would you not?

Also, America has always had extremely powerful business interests that used fear of communism as a way to discredit the left wing in general.
>>
Because Communism is a godless ideology.
It's pure atheistic, nihilistic savagery.

Socialism is a cancer that poisons the mind.

>all of history has no nukes
>now the other dipole has nukes
>nuclear holocaust diverted by a single individual on 3 separate occasions, one defying orders
>mass propoganda, indoctrination, drills, fearmongering, allegorical UFO movies, etc.
Why the fuck are you asking why people were scared

averted* I meant
>>
Every Communist state has racked up a huge body count. Not wanting to get murdered is a pretty good reason for being against Communism.
>>
It was a bipolar world, your country was going to be either with the capitalist nations or the commie bloc. It was basically geopolitics going full two-party system for a while.

As the US were at the very head of one of those two poles, the other pole is what they were going to be watchful for, lest any political subversion would occur.
>>
>>564887
There is only one primary reason.

At the end of WW2 America had 50% of humanity's industrial output. Without a war they needed somewhere else to sell their goods. Communist countries were all but closed off to American exports so America instituted the Marshal plan to rebuild markets in Europe and Japan and prevent communism from spreading further.

It's always about money.
>>
>>564887
Because the aim of Communism is to create a society beyond Capitalism and the USA was the leading Capitalist power?
>>
>>564887
Oh I don't know, perhaps because bolshevism was the worst plague to ever befall mankind?
>>

America originally intended to extend the Marshall Plan to the soviet bloc you fucking idiot, but Stalin wanted money and weapons, not food and infrastructure.
>>
>>565021
But extending the Marshall Plan into the Soviet Sphere was a way of preventing the spread of Communism - that's why Stalin rejected it.
>>
>>565043
No it wasn't, it was a way to kickstart the european economy. FDR was a cuck commielover. Then Stalin faked the elections in Poland and many other eastern european countries and did very stupid things like the berlin blockade.

In retrospect thank god he did those things.

There's an interesting history of socialism in America that's no longer taught to anyone. Oklahoma is now one of the "reddest" states in the country (the only state in which McCain won every county), but until ~1917 Oklahoma was by far the most socialist state in America with 984 chapters of the Socialist party (the most of any state).

What's most interesting though is the "Americanized" form of socialism they practiced:

>Rather than embracing “true” communism and its abolition of private property, Oklahoman socialists advocated land redistribution so that farmers could conceivably own their own property instead of paying someone else rent, regardless of how their farms performed each year. They borrowed from Jefferson, lionizing the “yeoman farmer” in opposition to bankers, lawyers and privileged classes. In such terms, socialism sounded less like a foreign ideology and more like the continuation of the United States’ own Founding Fathers. Additionally, Oklahoman socialists invoked Christ and the Bible, giving their strain of the socialist movement a “Christian socialist” character. With Jesus’ identification with the poor, sick and oppressed, it has never been a hard case to make in any Christian society that Jesus was on the side of the plebeians against the patricians, and the Oklahoman socialists made that case well.

>Although God is often cited in today’s political rhetoric against extending civil rights to gays or giving women the right to choose, in the past God often featured heavily in the speeches of left-wing radicals who utilized the compassion and charity in the Christian tradition rather than its intolerance and hatred. It seems doubtful that socialism would have bloomed in Oklahoma had it not changed to fit the local political and cultural language. In many other places, socialism tried to change that language to suit its own needs, and often died on the vine as a result.

>So, what happened? The answer lies with an event often not mentioned in Oklahoma classrooms. In 1917, a group of radical tenant farmers called the Working Class Union (WCU) launched an insurgency against the state and federal government based on anger over military conscription. The country had just entered World War I, and not only did most Americans not identify with the Allies (the British had just brutally crushed Ireland in the Easter Rebellion), but few saw any benefit in sending their young men to die in a “rich man’s war.” Despite no actual records documenting what was planned, historians have nevertheless guessed that WCU agitators encouraged farmers to take up arms and march on Washington, D.C. living off the land and eating roasted “green corn” – leading to the revolt being called the “Green Corn Rebellion.” Betrayed by an informer, the rebels gave up when confronted by a posse on the banks of the South Canadian River. Hundreds were arrested, with over a hundred sentenced to prison terms.

The Russian Revolution and Joseph Stalin are the reasons why communism is feared/hated in America so much during the 20th Century.

>It propagated atheism and scientific achievements, conducted 'individual work' (a method of sending atheist tutors to meet with individual believers to convince them of atheism, which could be followed up with harassment if they failed to comply).

>Under the slogan, "the Storming of Heaven," the League of Militant Atheists pressed for "resolute action against religious peasants" leading to the mass arrest and exile of many believers, especially village priests. By 1940, "over 100 bishops, tens of thousands of Orthodox clergy, and thousands of monks and lay believers had been killed or had died in Soviet prisons and the Gulag.

>The LMG had reduced the number of religious communities of all faiths from 50,000 in 1930 to 30,000 by 1938 and 8,000 by 1941. The last figure includes, however, 7,000 communities in the annexed western territories (so that only 1,000 actually remained in the rest of the country).

1. FDR was cuck commielover, Truman wasn't
2. he did know that starving people come up with some radical bullshit like fascism or communism
3. nobody expected USSR would actually agree with Marshall Plan

America was FOUNDED on Liberal Individualistic values which is basicly is the opposite of Communism

This is why Obama could radicalise So many Right wingers despite not being Socialist, The Hint of Him being socialist causes 30% of the population to pure hatred

It's amusing how "freedom of speech" is supposedly so lionized by Americans, yet they have such a violent history of suppression. The way they've erased their own history and replaced it with mythology is disturbing.

At the end of WWII the US government commission a series of short films about the justification for war. One of them is on Russia's role and is extremely favorable toward them, made in that small window of time before tensions completely took over. It was extremely popular in the Soviet Union, but it's a bit of a mind-fuck to watch.

Corprations had massive investments into third world countries, generally for things such as cheap labor.

Communism always nationalizes (steals) assets.

So you see a tradeoff. You can either bend over to the United states and have wealth creation or be communist and actually own your land.
>>
I've always wondered about one thing.

There are people who claim that the US didn't recover from the crisis until the end of WW2 because of New Deal.

From "dumb randroids" to "paranoid lolbertarians" - how insane those people are?
>>
>>569548
Tensions were already high. The united states killed a bunch of reds in ww1 because they were allies with team white. Their attempt was half assed however, and the reds lived on.

In ww2 soviets were killing american spies and shooting down allied aircraft, so anything you see is sort of hot air. Both sides fucking hated eachother.
>>

Maybe in policy but the propaganda push to make villains of communists like OP's picture hadn't started yet.
>>
>>564887
The Soviet Union was a belligerent totalitarian dictatorship.

Communists mean well and just want to help the little guy, if I had to choose between Khrushchev and Hitler I'd choose Khrushchev. That said, in the real world the system he was in meant he had to acquiesce to the military's demands or face being ousted, he had to support supporting proxies and civil wars in the undeveloped world, political repression, massive military budgets and so forth. The Soviet Union would take whatever it could and expand as much as it can like a psychopath, unlike the USA, which, although imperfect, was democratic and had goals other than accumulating power by any means, releasing the Philippines shortly after ww2 for instance.

I dunno anon, id take socialism over communism any day. Its basically bending over for the government instead of corporations.
