Gerrymandering.
They redraw districts to influence voting outcomes in the usa a lot.
Say you win a district if you have 50-100% of the votes. Then you could redraw a district that is 90% down to 60%, so you can bring up another district above 50%.

I agree. 40% of Massachusetts voted for Romney but it is gerrymandered so that all 9 districts are controlled by Democrats- Republicans from Massachusetts have no representation in Congress!
>>561120

You mean neocons. Actual Republicans wanted Reagan to get the mexicans out in 1980, neocons wanted them here to destroy unions.
>>558573
>>558655
>>558765
>>558829
>liberals and foreigners don't understand why those districts are gerrymandered
Those districts are all black majority districts. Statistically white people- even white democrats- vote for whites 99% of the time in primary elections. Blacks vote for blacks 99% of the time in primary elections. Hence the only way to ensure black representation in Congress is by putting all of the blacks in one district.
White liberals complain about this because they'd rather have a 95% white Congress controlled by Democrats than give black people a voice.

>>561648
>Hence the only way to ensure black representation in Congress is by putting all of the blacks in one district.
What the fuck are you talking about? That's not at all the case. Gerrymandering is just a means for whatever party controls a state to solidify power. Take Maryland for example. Baltimore's gerrymandered into as much of the state as possible to ensure that the Democrats will always hold a majority.

Funny looking districts can arise without shenanigans - say you've got a state with a large coastline, a dense urban area, a wiggly river bordered by farmlands, and a bunch of mountains full of bears and lumberjacks and lube-mining operations.
If you construct the districts to give the farmers, the lube miners, the city slickers, and the coastal dwellers each their own district, you get borders that wiggle all over the fucking place, not straight lines.
(That said, I agree that districting is a fucking huge shenanigan temptation, and there are definitely rotten boroughs in the States... but 'it looks funny' isn't the smoking gun.)
>>551496

If you start the German-French history in 1871.
But if you add the decade-long French occupation of Germany during Napoleon, the theft of Alsace under Louis XIV, the rape of Germany by France during the 30 Years War...etc, the French and Germans are still far from even despite all that happened between 1871 and 1945.
Basically everything Martialis wrote. Fucker was an absolute legend.

Yes. Saddam posed no threat to the west and ISIS does. You just don't like him because "muh dictatorship" even though secular autocratic rule is what a stable middle eastern society requires. However this idea makes you uncomfortable and you'd much rather believe that culture is simply the food we eat and the holidays we celebrate rather than the deep-running traits and attitudes of a people, and that they can, in fact, be different from ours.
