>ancient era: Thracian/Dacian fighters, with shield, sword and their symbol. Their armours weren't meant to be ostentatious like the Romans' ones
>classical era: I guess the Celts, I have to agree with that
>early medieval: Normans/Vikings with chainmail and dank helmets
>late medieval: Japanese samurai fighters
>renaissance: that's an art era, not a historic one - but if I am to say one, I would go for polish hussars
>1800s: Russian, especially oprichniks
>WW1: French even if they sucked
>WW2: they have all looked boring - but I would say Germans, I like these caps
>cold war: don't like any
>modern day: don't like any
>of all time: Thracians or Normans, even the modern russians.

Try thinking. The ideal armor depends on the environment you're in, the Phalanx is a general term for fighting in formation and all that comes with it.

Wow you really don't know history buddy.
Dacian/Thracian armor was similar to celtic armor. Prehistory generally means before the agricultural revolotion, but you wouldn't know what that was anyway.

So, you're using the phalanx as a figurative form of armor. As in being protected by the entire group?
>>

Thracians have never fought naked as I know.

That means OP is dumb and doesn't know history - the only prehistoric armour is a rag placed on the inguinal area.
