Based Egalitarians thread.
Or just anyone who were more progressive than their surrondings.
Who else in history had their beliefs stuck in a century which deemed them radical?
Here's Thaddeus Stevens. A man who believed that Natives, blacks, and women among others deserve fair and equal treatment.

May have jumped the gun there. He definately believed the blacks deserved equality, I forgotten if he thought total equality for women was good and he simply wanted to protect the native americans from having their reservations taken control by the states.

Yet, he caused massive harm by ignoring all facts on the ground in order to push his idealized America. Radical Reconstruction was a failure from the start and was never going to succeed. It was worse than Bush pushing Democracy in Iraq or our nation building in South Vietnam. He is only championed for his moral absolutism and by self righteous historians. Anyone who thinks Radical Reconstruction could have succeeded is an idiot.
Read what Union Officers, Massachusetts native, and Republican Reconstructionist Governor Daniel Chamberlain had to say about Stevens.

>Yet, he caused massive harm by ignoring all facts on the ground in order to push his idealized America
Because the Southern sympathizing Andrew Johnson sabotaged Congress at every and any possible point while it was attempting to enfranchise the former slaves.
>Radical Reconstruction was a failure from the start and was never going to succeed
Because the Confederate states returned to the status quo within 15 years of the wars end - democratically elected black politicians in the South were harassed and killed by the KKK (enabled by lenient treatment of Confederate war criminals), and replaced by former Confederates.
>He is only championed for his moral absolutism
You spent the first three sentences of your post "refuting" this fact, and then reaffirmed it.
I realize you are mentally inferior to individuals with reason, but please don't make your handicap so obvious.
