We all know that this board is in turmoil, and to be quite frank, I like it, the amount of actual high level discussion(from both sides) and length of paragraphs is a breath of fresh air from the dead 10 character max epic maymays most of 4Chan had become, though we are already seeing decay brought over from previous boards.

So in this thread we propose ways of keeping levels of discussion high. Have a problem with Jews? Fine but you sure as fuck better have cited historical examples, think socialism is great? Better explain the precedence of socialist policy positives throughout history(NOTE DO NOT ARGUE ABOUT STATED EXAMPLES).

No the problem lies when discussion devolved into a group of tards posting one line memes or reaction images(fedora, autist, muh Magic sky daddy) rather then engaging in informative discussion that leads to the cognitive enrichment of everyone.

So in this thread, we propose creative examples of how to keep /his/ fresh. Please, without bias or flaring passions, brainstorm ideas to help all /his/torians.

Three ideas I thought we could throw around are:

1. The /r9k/ bot, or what it's original purpose was, to foster OC. In our case it would greatly cut down on small shitposter sentences, and hopefully if not stop shitposters, at least make them work for their fix.

2. Discourage precedence of ideas, this one might be a bit harder to pull off, but the general jist would be to encourage /his/torians to be as impartial as possible, what do I mean? "The dark ages were bad", says who? For what possible reasons besides our own modern concept of quality of life or human decency could we consider them bad? The phrase, part of history, but not of it, springs to mind. Think and examine like you'd do with ants.

And finally 3.(and my most favourite and autistic)

Opposite Day, no seriously, if the board ever does find itself teetering towards a hugbox, then maybe once a week, or at some predetermined time, we all play devils advocate for one day(cont)
>>
mind you, I see no way of enforcing this besides on the honor system, maybe somebody else can think of a creative implementation.
So please, share your thoughts, the future of this wonderful board could depend on it.

I'm not not gonna let click bait win out because of short attention spans, this board belongs to readers, thinkers and people who can focus for more then 30 seconds.

Hoping for more dubs, as that's the only reason this guy:>>52405 even responded
>>
>>52333
Since 4chan can detect most links how about threads can only be posted if they contain at least 2 links?
Robot is a decent idea as well though maybe a slightly nerfed version

I really hope /his/ does settle down to a mature level of posting but we're not off to a great start. It's difficult to discuss much of history without politics being relevant, and we all know what political discussion does to an internet thread.

And that's without the "activists" who come here primarily to discuss politics (even though we have a politics board), or to demand that those with "unacceptable" political views be silenced.

The only thing we can do is set an example and hope others follow it. For my part, I will personally try to follow the sticky guidelines as much as possible. They seem like the best way to maintain good order here.

>Blatant racism and trolling will not be tolerated, and a high level of discourse is expected. History can be examined from many different conflicting viewpoints; please treat other posters with respect and address the content of their post instead of attacking their character.

>When discussing history, please reference credible source material, and provide as much supporting information as possible in your posts.

I think a good way to encourage others to do the same is just to link their offending post to the sticky and copypaste the relevant part in greentext so they know they're being called out for breaking board rules.

Okay, I like it, could be circumvented, but an obstacle is a obstacle.

>>53695
Okay, sticky adherence got it, though we have to be careful it doesn't devolve to "logically fallacy" memes like it did on /pol/.
>>
Bumping again to get discussion going, or you could just continue to watch good things slip into the void, as par the course for 2015
>>
Bumping again cause your guys tastes in threads are shit.
>>
>>52333
>actual high level discussion

Are you fucking kidding me, compared to /lit/ this shit is /Atlantis Nazis UFOs and Racial Determinsim/

The few book threads have been ok but lets not get carried away
>>
>>55532
It's has significantly decayed in the last few hours, and will continue to do so until we have this discussion.
>>
>>55587
Yeah because your virtuous shepherding will end the torrent of tranny cocks and nazi threads. This shit is history channel circa 2003, im surprised there isnt an ice road truckers sticky
>>
/his/ will die because threads like these are utterly discarded by the masses while one liners are discussed to death.

I suggested a minimum post count in the OP when the board was first created but it got deleted.

I appreciate your effort OP, but there's no use. This board will never be what it could have been, it will be a place of pseudo-intellectuals and armchair philosophers discussing flaky topics that only conform to a political bias.

how is that bad compared to the echochamber that are the other boards and the shitpost fest that are /b/ and /int/? c'mon man

I'm not your saviour, I'm just the guy on the boat asking about that ice berg in the distance.

/b/ and /int/ are no different to /his/ right now.
>>
>>55860
>implying I OP am not from /pol/
>implying hasn't become even shitter then I ever thought possible

There used to be some actual meat to right ideas on /pol/, now it's a smoking crater that I question why I come to.
>>
The problem was there needed to be a resolution right when the board was created, before a 'culture' was developed from underneath the content and discussion.

This didn't happen, there was no enforcement on proper OP structures that facilitate a good discussion.

Now, when the admins attempt to restore order, there will be a huge uprising from the masses who have since adapted their lives around the board culture, that believe in the status quo and resist any signs of change.

It happens to every community, not just 4chan or Reddit or tumblr. You see all of this in real life communities. It's an unbreakable cycle of human evolution.
>>
Enjoy /his/ while it lasts.

This place will last a month tops, before dumped by Jackie 4chan while he tells everyone go back to /int/ and /pol/ for humanities related discussion.

I don't think /his/ has been around that long. It's mostly just /lit/ and /int/ Greece pussies with dumb /pol/ barbarians.

it's for the best. If you can't separate yourself from your ideology then you shouldn't discuss history in depth.

/jp/ got over moving from Japan/General to Otaku Culture, and their autism is maximum. The whiners here can do the same.

I think what this board needs to be successful is a high janitor/mod population, I wouldn't recommend something like that for a board like /pol/, but thats because the intent behind this board and that board are very different.

this board is for intelectual analysis of historical events, opinions are only relevent when discussing subjective events in history, or when discussing the importance of a particular event, and even then opinions should supported with facts, and should not involve personal attacks.

a board like /pol/ is supposed to be a place where people can be free to shout their opinion, no matter how bigoted and ignorant. /his/ should be different.

as for what mods can do, I like the suggestion about requiring links in every post, however this might become difficult. I would also suggest a minimum character count for posts, as another poster mentioned, make the shitposters work for it. also, off topic posts should be banned without mercy, checking dubs without contributing to the discussion, etc.

as for what we as /his/torians can do; understand how to report posts, and do so dilligently, hopefully if the mods see a high level of reports they get enough janitors to compensate.

also, to avoid this place turning into /pol/ everyone needs to have some thick skin, just because you don't agree with a post doesnt mean it should be reported/banned. if the poster is trying to contribute to the discussion then they have done nothing wrong
>>
>>56019
I dont think anyone is looking for an echo chamber, but if you are looking for a slugfest isn't that basically all that /pol/ is? if you want a fight go there. if you want a conversation come here. and for that matter, why does it have to be one of the 2? why does it have to be an extreme? are we really so far gone as creatures that we can't just casually discuss history?
>>
>>56733
Because anytime someone as a dissenting opinion, they are labeled. There will never be peace, but least we can do is ensure history is contained with the arguments rather then "/pol/ retard!" Or "Leftist Pansy".
>>
We ban the words:

/pol/
Leftist
stormfag
Liberal
Conservative
Reddit
Tumblr
/lit/
Shill
Kike
Marxist
/int/
And Nazi

Am I forgetting any?
