Why was 20th century so extreme? Can we expect the same from the 21st?

The formation of nationstates requiring bloody wars against the old empires. Look at a map before and after WW1.

Advancements in technology and science created a strong sense of linear progress, absoluteness and finiteness in history and politics, hence totalitarian regimes. You can do some crazy shit when you think you're on the right side of history.

>linear progress

If not exponential

Forgot to mention the significance of masses. Mass politics, mass ideology, mass education, mass mobilization, mass media, etc etc.

something something self-aware AI

I'm not trying to be a /pol/ster but people are working towards a borderless one world government, at least in Europe

Either it succeeds or it fails, but that will be a spectacle

kek, your expression is limited by your use of language

I think
interconnectedness / proliferation / the globe becoming more networked
are closer to what you're talking about.

Or even more, just see how African population is growing because some Europeans gave them medicines and food. This is already causing problems, but the migration problem will be global and bigger than it is now, and in part because of climate change.

Communication.

A big factor in the recent migration crisis is the arab "spring".

>20th century so extreme
Compared to the rest of the centuries its pretty chill. You only say its extreme because the 20th century is the century closest you in the 21st century.

Take a chill pill OP.

>Why was 20th century so extreme?
It was about as extreme as any other century, at least from the PoV of the West. I mean, just look at the one prior:

>19th century: Conclusion of the Napoleonic Wars, sporadic revolutionary and counter-revolutionary movements including 1848, US Civil War, formation of Germany, string of "minor" conflicts like the Crimean War, build up to WWI

That shit was every bit as crazy as the 20th.

>europe = world
>most of the world was owned by europe so technically in terms of states it was a world war
in practice it was a european war with other theatres of conflict being sideshows, the only exception being the asian theatre.
>>
>>523546
>theatres of conflict being sideshows
>what is North African campaign
And shit, even Brazil sent their men in the Italian campaign
>>
>>523539
Proportionally? I dunno. Obviously by raw numbers since world population has gone up, but otherwise I wouldn't be so sure.

US Civil war was plenty bloody, the Japanese Meiji Restoration wasn't exactly peaceful, countless rebellions in China, all of the colonial conflicts in Africa, the Haitian Revolution wrapped up early in the century, all of the Balkan conflicts, the friggin' Napoleonic Wars, et cetera et cetera.

The 19th century was just as insane as the 20th.

>Iran, Arabia, Turkey, Kurdistan and Judea divide 95% of the world between themselves

>Huge decade long conflict takes place entirely in the middle east, in which tens of millions die

>The nations involved send small populations from territories they control around the world to this region to support their war efforts

>Small skirmishes in other regions between their colonial territories with the exception of one huge series of battles in central/southern africa due to rising (and promptly falling) congolese empire, and one moderately sized series of battles in the balkans in support of the primary conflict

""""""""""world war""""""""""
>>
>>523631
It's not called a world war because it took place all over the world, but because nearly all of the countries in the world were involved in it
>>
>>522091
tl;dr me on Evola
>>
>>523643
Yes, the post you quoted points out how silly that is.
>>
>>523377
Yeah, because North African and Near Eastern countries can't make effective control over their territory, but it's also because the black population of Africa is growing too much while they don't increase their productivity proportionally.
>>
i fucking hope so. i want 21st century to be extreme. i'm enlisting with the /pol/ army, /k/ division when shit kicks off.
>>
1. Technology and that's about it
2. Maybe, too soon to tell.
>>
1. Industrial Revolution meets Nationalism, creates war of extreme scale and extreme terror. War becomes too much for burgeoning global economy developing under the wing of European hegemony. European authority erodes or outright dissolves leaving a global power vacuum that the followers of the Communist ideology and the advocates/exploiters/manipulators of a natural free market fought to gain control over. All of this happened while technology for good or ill was exploding in scope, potency and influence feeding a massive population boom and global market.

2. Depends on the region. Conflict in Africa and the Middle East will almost certainty escalate as time and technology march on while resource scarcity worsens. Its a wonder we haven't seen the detonation of a small scale nuclear device in such places already. South East Asia and China, already grossly overpopulated are environmental disaster zones waiting to happen. All of this will happen as the West grows fatter and more complacent with it's service economy and virtual stimulus. Technology may solve some if not most of these problems, I certainly hope it will.

Sorry for the tl;dr friendos
