He was obviously a sincere Christian. So why did he go to such lengths to protect pedophiles? And why did Pope Ben get the wrap for it, when Ben was the one telling him to plz stahp protecting pedophiles?
>>
>>520563
Because he knew he could get away with it.
>>
>>520564
That doesn't explain it. He was a very religious Christian, so religious he even whipped himself. It's no doubt that no one is perfect, but did he even consider what he was doing to be sinful?

Because he was a pedophile himself.
>>
Perhaps he thought protecting the image of the church was more important
>>
>>520581
Didn't this actually end up doing more damage to the image of the Church than even the Reformation could muster up?
>>
>>520592
In hindsight, maybe, but Benedict was much less popular than JP and therefore people are faster to pin the blame on him

Sucks for Benny really
>>
>>520563
>>
>>520656
I think Western media didn't want to pin it on JP because he had the Reagan alliance, anti-communist thing, and Benedict was after the Cold War.
>>
>>520698
This pic doesn't make sense. If he wants to dog on a religious group, he should shit on Protestants. 3% of their clergy fiddle kiddies while only 1.5% do it the Catholic Church, which most are excommunicated.

Pope Francis has done wonders for the Church's image, though, so there's that fixed.

Also, you have to realize that by far the most high-profile priest-rape claims came from the US, and that the US is a bit of a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the global Church.

Sure, there were sexual abuse allegations elsewhere in the world, but nothing like what happened in the United States. At the very least, they didn't receive as much media attention. And US has like 1% of the world's Catholic population.

All the media firestorm was a big deal here, but it wasn't as big a deal in South America, Africa, and Southern Europe, where the Church is mostly concentrated. Hence it didn't damage the Church as much as Americans like to think it did.

But look at how he's doing it. Basically by tricking people into thinking he's super liberal.
>>
>>520776
Is it really 'tricking' if nothing he's said goes against Church teachings? It's all authentic doctrine and dogma and pastoral practice, it's just that people think it's liberal because we didn't hear about it from Benedict, or at least we didn't hear it as loudly.
>>
>>520768
Its literally only 2 guys saying it

Some ex Muslim that I doubt either of us are familiar with (wtf is "shoebat"?) and Bill Graham's grandson. I thought there was going to be some type of actual study done

I'm not calling you a liar, but I'd feel like a fool if I just took these reports at face value.

68 million people are Catholic in the USA. Which is roughly 3% of the world's Catholics. Considering the hate of Catholicism in the 1800s and the fact that most of the people who originally came here in the 17th and 18th century were Protestant, that's pretty significant.

>>520776
That's just Tumblr and the media. Francis has literally done nothing to say he's a liberal.

>>520784
Well that's the thing, you never heard much from Benedict about his political views in America.
>>
>>520743
I don't think you can be excommunicated for kiddy diddling. It's only for people who propagate heresies and refuse to recant. The punishment for kiddy diddlers is lifetime confinement to a monastery.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but technically diddling kiddies is against biblical law, and you can be excommunicated if you break any law technically. Whether or not it's actually done is up to the Pope according to Catholic Doctrine.
>>
>>520828
None of those news reports say specifically that its higher than Catholicism.

Even so, Catholicism would still be a bigger issue because its happening in one large organized church, and the Protestant churches are independent for the most part. Isn't really a fair comparison

Does it matter whether there is one or one hundred, or one thousand pedophiles in the Catholic Church? Isn't one, too many?

This child-abuse crisis is not genuinely recognized by the RCC; rather, the church is strategically in denial, downplaying and obfuscating as it deems necessary to sustain its image.

The Catholic Church has a profound image problem and its nexus is child-abuse by the priesthood, and then, no action by the church to expel the violators to scrutiny in civil courts.
