>Holy Roman EMPIRE
>First German EMPIRE
>Third REICH
Why do Anglos do this?
Third Empire gives no insight into what country the name is actually fucking talking about.

The best part about that is that "Drittes Reich" is a unofficial propaganda term much like "Tausendjähriges Reich" (one thousand years empire), the correct term would be "Deutsches Reich" or simply German Empire
It's entirely the anglo's fault for not having concrete equivalents for "Reich" and "Kaiserreich"
>>512691
>Anglos
What?
The Holy Roman Empire called itself the Holy Roman Empire, the German Empire called itself the German Empire and so fourth.
>>512996
Holy Roman Empire called itself Heiliges Römisches Reich. REICH.
I've seen the first two referred to as the first and second Reich.
>>513013
Only in German.
Deutsche was only one of three official imperial languages. The others were Italian and Czech.
>>513013
Reich is German for empire you retard
>WE WUZ ROMAN EMPERORS AN SHIT
Germanics, not even once
>>513794
The point is why do Anglos translate the word reich into empire with the first two reichs but don't do it with the third one, dumb fuck.
>>513823
>>513823
Id assume so that it doesn't have as much credence as the others, you just refer to it as Nazi Germany, collectively.
>>512691
1. "Third Empire" is a universally applicable term that tells you nothing about what the country is. "Reich," being a German word, identifies it as a German state, and thus it clearly refers to Nazi Germany.
2. "Empire" in English commonly has a connotation of greatness/strength/etc. that English-speaking peoples aren't generally willing to concede to Nazi Germany. By using the untranslated word "reich," any possible positive connotation of "empire" is avoided while still remaining technically accurate.
Same with the word regime. In French it just means diet / government, but Anglos use the word as a pejorative term for totalitarian shit.
The correct name is Holy Germanic-Roman Empire, desu.

First and second reichs were ruled by an emperor, which is the only thing determinig whether it is an empire or another type of state.

and what about british empire?
>>517458
Ruled by the emperors of India?
>>515375
No, the correct way would be "holy roman empire of german nations".
>>513794
Not really.
Empire in german is Kaiserreich.
Reich is etymologically similar to "rich" and refers to the property of a ruler.
Kaiserreich means something like "emperor realm".
I think "realm" is a better translation than empire.
So you guys should call it the Third German Realm.
>hurr why they call it Holy Roman Empire but decide to say Third Reich instead of Third Empire
You're literally fucking retarded, you made a thread arguing about semantics
Holy Roman Empire is completely unambiguous, It is very obvious what it refers too, The Third Empire is ambiguous and could refer to numerous Third Empires, but Third Reich could only refer to one thing.
Gas yourself next time
>Julius Caesar
>Augustus
>Mark Antony

Well, Poles actually specify that it's Holy Roman Empire OF THE GERMAN NATION.
I am also really baffled that English doesn't differentate between an empire in terms of strength and empire in terms of being ruled by an emperor. We have that.

>official imperial languages
No.
