>hey guys lets begin a war for a region that can only be reached and supplied by sea
>we have only one worthy ship, lets risk it in some irrelevant naval battle
>we have a badass ironclad and are against some shitty wooden schooner
>hmm, these waters seem really shallow and the enemy ship tries to get as close to the coast as possible, so obviously LETS RAM IT

Peru truly deserved the rape they received during the Pacific War.

It depends on each failure, the cause is always: "They weren't prepared", which then shifts the goalpost to: "Why and how they were not prepared", which means you have to identify which advantages did the victors possess.

When a battle, in which the numbers were originally supposed to favor the ultimate losing side, turns into a massacre, you are dealing with gross differences in training, equipment, tactics, intelligence & communications, terrain & weather advantages, etc. possibly in combination.

The battle just gets more and more absurd as it goes on

Yeah, Hitler was dead, the Wehrmacht personal loyalty oath to Hitler was now fulfilled. Some men like Gangl decided enough was enough. The killing had to stop.

At the end of the war things went fucking nuts between the more diehards in the SS and the exhausted Wehrmacht. I was reading somewhere that an older Wehrmacht officer was working with a bunch of civilians to dress his child soldiers in civilian clothing. An SS punishment patrol caught wind of it and found them in this basement and attempted to Panzerfaust them. They shot the man and the patrol and continued on.

Another incident involved Mad Jack Churchill and a group of prisoners. They were on the verge of being executed by Allgemeine-SS men when the Army intervened, they told the SS to fuck off and personally escorted them to Allied hands.

Likewise the SS and former SA men hung everyone who looked like they were about to give up. It was just a brutally confusing fucking time to be a German in the Spring of 1945.

I did not know they were so seperated. Thought they were all die hard fanatics. I guess the flame burned out once hitler died.
>>
>>499876
Wehrmacht soldiers were just like allied soldiers fighting for their country, some cunts among them but it was the same everywhere. SS were absolute shits all the way through.
>>
>>499876
They were never friends and there really was no burning flame of nationalism in the wehrmacht to the degree it was in the SS.

It's like assuming every American soldier like Obama. (Most American soldiers are conservative and do not)

>there really was no burning flame of nationalism in the wehrmacht to the degree it was in the SS

No loyalty to the party*

All armies at that time were fueled by rampant nationalism, the Wehrmacht included. The SS was different in that it was also tied to the NSDAP.

A lot of the Werhmacht didn't really like Hitler in the first place. I heard somewhere that if the allies had contested the reoccupation of the Rhineland (which would have forced a humiliating withdrawal as Germany had yet to fully rearm), there were senior figures in the Wehrmacht who would have used it as an excuse for a coup. Ironically for most of the '30s the people most heavily rooting for Hitler to get the foreign policy bitchslap he deserved were the officers of the army which would go down in history as the Nazi killing machine bent on making Hitler ruler of the world.

There was a shit load of rivalry between the Wehrmacht and the SS. The Wehrmacht saw themselves as the professional and honourable, and the REAL German military, and saw the SS as a bunch of thugs who were little better than the rabble of politicised street-gangs from the 1920s that their organisation had originated with. Also, if you were an average guy in the 1930s and you didn't particularly like the Nazis a good way to avoid getting pushed around by them was to join the army. As Hitler went from success to success he got so popular that even people who didn't like him at first started to come around to him andd acknowledge the good he had done Germany, so I wouldn't exactly say that the Wehrmacht was a hotbed for Hitler hate. But still, if you wanted to find anti-Hitler sentiment in pre-war Germany the first place you would look was the Wehrmacht. I've always considered it one of history's greatest ironies.

Poorly equipped and poorly trained. Also, lack of preparation.

Didn't American generals basically threaten a coup if Obama chose to put troops on the ground in Syria?
