What led to the Korean War? What was the unified Korean peninsula like before it?

What attempts have the countries made towards reunification?
>>
>>486713
it was taken over by japan in the early 20th centuary before that it was sort of isolationsit.
the war started when the communist north wanted to reunite the country which have ruined attempts at unification indefinably until something major changes in the political climate
>>
>>486713
>What led to the Korean War?
US incompetence.

The southern section of the korean party over selling it's organisational levels (We'll have taken Seoul before the tanks reach it).

>What was the unified Korean peninsula like before it?
Heavily industrialised in the North (to japanese levels). A japanese wage slave labour camp.

>What attempts have the countries made towards reunification?
Well the DRVN attempted to reunify Korea in a quite remarkable way in the late 40s.
>>
>>487080
I thought the south, not the north was both more industrialized and populated.
>>
>>487546
not until after the korean war.
>>
>>486713
>What led to the Korean War?
Neither government was willing to cooperate, or consider permanent division. Norks were better equipped, and didn't hesitate to invade.

>What was the unified Korean peninsula like before it?
Occupied by the Japanese. Rapid industrialization, but terrible for the Native population. Slave labor, cultural genocide, and of course, Japan's favorite hobby, rape.

>I thought the south, not the north was both more industrialized and populated.
No. The south was the 'breadbasket' of the empire. Vast rice patties worked by hand. The north is mountainous and not suitable for farming, and mining took off there.

This is part of the reason for such a terrible famine in the 90s for the DPRK. During the Soviet Era, they'd spent huge sums of money to try and achieve food independence, and they could only achieve this through massive use of construction projects and fertilizer.

When that dried up, they had a problem.

American imperialism.

>It's the Koreans' fault that Korean reunification hasn't happened even though the majority of Koreans in the South and all Koreans in the North want reunification
>>
>>487600
>south koreans want reunifiication
hahaha
>>
>>487600
South Korea would go bankrupt fast if they absorbed the North.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/24949/Gallup-World-Poll-Implications-Reunification-Two-Koreas.aspx
The only South Koreans that don't want reunification are the military dictatorship government and their minority of supporters.
>>
>>487579
Not until the mid 1980s IIRC
>>
>>487586
>Norks were better equipped, and didn't hesitate to invade.
They hesitated until they got a "go" order from the Russian party.

In fact they hesitated throughout an extensive attempted guerrilla campaign.

>>487658
Fuck off to >>>/pol/. This is a board for history.
>>
>>487658
>Korean unification holds vast economic potential, and a unified Korea could create an $8.7 trillion economy by 2055, or 1.7 times the forecasted size of the South Korean economy.
>The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, a government think tank, released the numbers in a report on unification scenarios, South Korean newspaper Donga Ilbo reported Wednesday. The report stated a unified Korea is expected to become a new powerhouse in the global economy, and that trade volume with neighboring countries would subsequently rise.

>all Koreans in the North want reunification
You've got polls saying this have you
>>
Heavy industries and mining in the north, good rice agriculture and some textile industries in the south.

There was considerable socialist and non-communist leftist in the whole peninsula. Just before Japs left they give the Koreans their own government, the People's Republic of Korea under Lyuh Woon-hyun leadership.

USAMGIK went full retard by abolishing PRK local structure and choose to use ex-collaborator & rightist instead. Meanwhile the Soviet won korean's support in the north by sponsored it.

Not him, but 1s in google: http://fpif.org/korean-reunification-the-view-from-the-north/

I wasn't expressing disbelief in them wanting reunification, I was commenting on how little data there we have from there for obvious reasons. Turns out there is in fact a poll, which I found surprising.

>>487743
But the question of north korea perception of korean reunification is in the category of humanities, not history. Don't tell me that it's closer to politics than humanities. There's no politicians in north korea. Look up the definition of politician. We're talking about what north koreans want as a society, and that's sociology, despite the severe lack of data.

And reunification certainly isn't a current event.

>But the question of north korea perception of korean reunification is in the category of humanities
It is a political fucking question, fuck off to >>>/pol/
>>
>>487837
No it isn't, despite involving a country. Reread the comment you quoted.
>>
>>487858
Politics isn't just about politicians you illiterate fucking cunt breath.
>>
>>487861
I guess it can be framed as a political question if you look at it in terms of foreign affairs, but there's no need to be so detached about it. It could easily fall into the category of sociology.
>>
>>487869
Sociology isn't a fucking humanity cunt.

So you're implying google is wrong, but you don't provide a counter citation?
>>
>>487928
Dewey is a good start. Solid well respected typology.
>>
>>487944
Thanks. Link? Does he categorise Sociology? Couldn't find anything with old google.
>>
>>487959
Fuck off you shitty little futon cunt. Fuck off to /pol/
>>
>>487963
What? Are you sourcing your claim about typology or having a period? Can you please decide?
>>
>>487975
Demands for FUll Text ONline immediate mark you as a fucking idiot.

Being unable to google Dewey Decimal marks you as a fucking idiot.
>>
>>488036
So you were referring to the dewey decimal system. I don't know if you expected me to guess that, I assumed you were talking about an author named Dewey who wrote about typology.

Anyway, the Dewey Decimal system marks Sociology as a social science because it has to classify it into one category. It's a simplification. In reality it's equally a humanity.
>>
does south Korea want to re-unify with the North?
absolutely
do they want their fucking government to rule over them?
hell fucking no
>>
>>488078
>an author named Dewey who wrote about typology.
Yes, that's the Dewey who wrote the Dewey decimal system.
