The food is better, the economy worse. Switzerland is Goldilocks scenario, good food with good economy.
South Italy shares a lot with Spain, maybe with Portugal too. Maybe the Southern part of France is similar to northern Italy, I don't know.

I'm from south-western France, we are kinda similar to northern Spain, from other french point of view.
Basically, south-west = spain, south-east = italy, north-west = england, north-est = germany, culturally.
Southern france is latin, northern france is more germanic.
