Post the most impressive battlefield victories of all time. I'll start with Austerlitz. Entire campaign was brilliant, capped by a stroke of magic on Napoleon's part. Truly his peak.

Any andwers other than battle of trafalgar are wrong. On mobile, but go to the wiki page and read the quick stats. Unbelievable. Plus had a massive historical consequence.

Not really. Was a typical battle plan that got lucky the Germans were off-balance at the time and had their armor elsewhere.

The British/Indian force was under the command of Major General Arthur Wellesley. The army with which he fought the battle totalled only about 5,000 men including 2,000 cavalry, mostly Sepoy (Indian) soldiers, and only three British regiments - the 74th, the 78th and the 9th Light Dragoons (the 15th/ 19th The King’s Royal Hussars).

On 23rd September 1803, he encountered what he had anticipated would only be a force of infantry, but instead was the whole combined army of his opponents - around 42,000 strong, including a high proportion of cavalry and a hundred guns. They were occupying an immensely strong position on an open plain with a village protecting either flank and the river Kaitna in front of them.

Wellesley decided to attack, despite the odds against him. A frontal assault across the river in the face of the guns was impracticable, but by skilful reading and use of the ground he managed to force the enemy flank and cross the river, although under fire.

On the right, there was near disaster. The officer commanding the picquets led his men straight up to the village of Assaye, contrary to the orders given him. The 74th, obeying their orders, followed the picquets. The Regiment was exposed, unsupported, to a most heavy cannonade and, being afterwards charged repeatedly by cavalry, sustained terrible losses, but maintained its position and the right flank of the army intact. In this action, every officer present with the Regiment was either killed or wounded, except Quartermaster James Grant, who, though a non-combatant , joined the ranks and fought until the end of the action. The Regiment was saved from annihilation by a charge of the 9th Light Dragoons, which succeeded in driving the enemy back. Their failure to destroy the 74th, coupled with the success of the 78th and Sepoys, caused the enemy to break and run leaving 6,000 casualties and almost all their fine brass cannon on the battlefield.

/pol/ is gonna sperg but Isandlwana. The Zulu didn't win just because they were superior in number because they had similar numerical advantage at Ulundi yet got their asses kicked that time. They won mainly because of brilliant organization, insane maneuverability (50 miles in 5 days with no horses), secrecy and surprise (British had no idea where they were until right before the battle, then when they were found they attacked immediately) good tactics (the "horn" outflanking maneuver) and of course outstanding bravery to charge riflemen with spears. Compared to say the Anglo-Ashanti War where the British just walked in the Zulu put in a good effort and made the British actually have to try.

Alexander was a total tough cunt on top of being a great strategist.

took on an army 4 times the size of his own head on and smashed them in

>>487512
agreed
I know the battle happened in the 1870's but generally speaking the first time natives anywhere would fight the British the sound of gunfire alone is enough to scare the shit out of them but the Zulu just did not give a fuck and fought their hearts out.
Truly fucking admirable those people.

Most brilliant victory I can think of. The ability of Alexander to anticipate his enemies movement was uncanny, and creating a gap in the enemy line and charging his heavy cavalry into it... The stuff of legend! Hands down the most brilliant victory ever won.
Streched the capability of his force to its absolute limit.

>the Reagan administration doing anything on behalf of the Islamic Republic that didn't get them something in return

Is it so hard to believe the Iranians could manage to pull off something like that?

Charge of Somosierra obviously. It's literally "crazy enough to work" stuff like they do in the movies.

After Dos de Mayo uprising, Napoleon found himself in a difficult position. He was rushing to tak Madrid, so taking a shorter, albeit harder and more mountainous way seemed as a smart option. However, he soon found out, that the passage of Somosierra is defended by 4000 infantry, as well as 16 cannons, divided in 4 batteries, making it virtually unpassable. 2500 meters of narrow (8m max) and slippy road, all under relentless fire from Spaninsh guns halted French march.

Napoleon initially tried to use his infantry to take the positions, but they were defenseless in the morning mist. After their failure, he came to conlusion, that the best option would be to try and scout the roead using mobile light infantry. 125 Polish lancers stood up as volontueers. Them however, misinterpreted the order and thought they were supposed to take the cannons in frontal assault.

Kozietulski, the leader of the lancers is told to shout "Forward, you dogsons, the Emperor watches!" ordering the attack against 4000 enemy troops. Being always under fire, the Poles hadn't stopped for a second, killing spainiards while their horses jumped over cannons, the same happened after two minutes, when they reached second spanish battery. This time however, the sheer speed of the charge was enough for the Spanish not to aim properly. Next two batteries inflicted heavy damage on the horsemen, but they managed to take them in run. At the end of steep road (25 degrees), French and other Polish units joined th lancers to help them chase the fleeing enemy, in what was the most impressive cavalry charge in history, noted for it's high speed, efficency and great effects of victory. Of the 125 lancers, 20 were dead and 55 wounded.
