What if Carthage won the Punic wars? How would the world be today?

ITT : please write more than 2000 years of alternate history in a few sentences.

You know how blacks are trying to rewrite history by making Egyptians black? Like that, only much much worse.

Cute girl, pity she had to ruin herself with a nosering.
>>
Significantly more human sacrifice.
>>
Carthage was more interested in trading along the Mediterranean and wasn't obsessed with conquering it all like Rome. They were also on better terms with the Greeks to the East.

If Carthage wins the wars and either contains Rome, or destroys it, there might never be a hegemon on the continent. Who knows how things would have changed from there.

same shit different names

>>467247
More or less this. I don't think Carthage would have tried to build a large empire, although it's not like Romans at the time necessarily 'planned' to either. The only main difference is that perhaps Rome wouldn't have had North Africa, Sicily or southern Spain, or would've fought over them and Egypt later on...
>>
It's one of those questions that's impossible to answer. Too many ramifications.
>>
>>467328
It's hard to say if Rome would have been able to conquer Egypt or the rest of Greece if they didn't have the population and resource base of Spain and North Africa.

In general, alternative history is a pointless activity, but sometimes it can give nice believable results if you moderate yourself. In this case, the event is too old to construct a believable modern world. You're playing with so many variables that no serious specific awnser can be given. It's also important to note that you don't mention which one of the three wars is supposed to be won by Carthage in your scenario.
>>
>>467385
Yeah, they most probably did it, there are even sources on Carthaginians adopting slave children to sacrifice them later if necessary in place of their own.

>the Gaurdian
>one researcher's biased claim

Human sacrifice was not exclusive to the Carthaginians, nor was belief in its power or basic reasoning.
>>
My guess is that it would speed up the emergence of capitalism. We'd have the technological level from the Fifth Element right now.
>>
This is only worth discussing if you ca actually come up with a reasonable way in which Carthage could actually win
>>
>>468439
Easy, Carthage gives Hannibal the extra support he requested, and Rome keeps attacking him directly instead of waiting him out.
>>
>>467385
History Channel did a Special on the Punic wars.
Mike Duncan also has good info on them.
Carthage didn't actually practice human or child sacrifice.
Archeologists thought this till they realized that Carthaginians buried Kids and Adults in separate grave yards.
Why?
I don't know.
>>
>>467165
Pretty much exactly the same but the pope would be in North Africa and the gauls and Mediterranean would all be mulato
>>
>>468449
Except that would never happen, seeing as every time Rome went about Fabius's wishes that got completely fucked up, and Carthage didn't care for war, as they were just greedy merchants
>>
Atilla would've rampaged through Europe without breaking a sweat.
>>
>>468468
The Greeks and Jews also said they practiced human sacrifice.
>>
>>468490
Have Fabius choke on a chicken bone just before the war starts and Rome goes ahead with what most people and most of the ruling class wanted, to confront Hannibal head on.
>>
Europe would still be bunch of barbarians.

Asia would be similar to what it was before the Qing got corrupted.

Islam wouldnt have existed. Christianity as well. Jews might or might now exist. Mid east might be under the Indian influence and thus Buddhist/Hindu influence might be stronger.

>Europe was still be a bunch of barbarians
Untrue. Since Carthage didn't have any imperialistic goals, they wouldn't influence the 'barbarians' in Europe. Eventually the tribes would advance just fine themselves without Roman-Greek influence, albeit much later.
>>
>>469128
How would they advance? Without the Romans, there wouldn't be a spread of culture or advancements of technology or transfer of technology.
>>
>>467430
>first denial, than reasoning
Rome sacrificed their children? This was viewed as favorable among Romans?
>>
>>467165
Rome would be a huge influence on Carthage regardless by merit of Italy's resources, it might even usurp Carthage as the capital at some point in the same way Byzantium usurped Rome.
>>
>>469208
I don't think Carthage wanted to annex Rome or Italy outside of the southern islands/fringes. They would have been content just burning it to the ground and then enforcing an unequal treaty like Rome had put on them.

You mean the latin wars.

Wasn't he best buds with Sedar Senghor or something? Like they came up with the concept of negritude together? My post-colonial African knowledge of history is shoddy.

What?
>>
>>467165
What kind of victory? Total destruction of the Romans or just roman subjugation.
>>
More baby killing

Carthage was a major trade power. It was widely know and would have greatly spread its influence if it had one during the Punic wars. It may have adopted Roman technology or adapted its own tech, but that doesn't seem very likely. However, there would be more tribal societies such as the Celts and the Suebi. Society would evolve among these tribes and other nations, but just a lot slower than how they did in real life. Mabey they would have evolved faster if Carthage expanded more, but the societies would adopt many aspects of Carthaginian society, like the tribes with the Romans.
>>
>>467233
To be fair, it's not like the Romans (or any other civilization at the time) were better by our standards.
>>
>>467165

A world where we sacrifice our firstborn* ?

Pretty harsh desu.

*it occured, but might be exagerated by Roman propaganda.
>>
>>469199
Maybe the Carthaginians could bleed over advancement via trade, albeit slower
Without Rome they might have taken and used Massalia as a Carthaginian colony
