Anyone else here get any cool /his/-related gifts for Christmas?
This thread might be early but meh.
I got "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" last year but couldn't make it through the whole book.

I realize now that William Bradford and his Puritan pals wouldn't even condone my celebrating Christmas.

my dad used to be married to a descendant of governor bradford, she was a massive raging drunk
Got some his related books.
I didn't. I'm kind of disappointed. I had hinted about Brothers Karazmov quite a bit, too, as well as some Plato and what not.

I got a fucking Conn Iggulden book about the war of the roses. Not sure how /his/ it is but his series about the cave people wasn't exactly scientifically brilliant.

I haven't read Kant or Hegel yet so ironically I'm probably a couple years from even touching that damn book.
Fuck me for trying to dabble in philosophy. A noble conquest to be sure, and you can do it even if it isn't your main interest, but expect philosophy to take up a HUGE portion of your time long-term just to get through any sort of chronological order.
I mainly read Economics.

Yeah I find it incredibly difficult to read philosophy outside of university courses. I feel like I miss a lot from the reading without a class to examine the author's ideas.

As long as you can find a way to discuss the novel, you don't need to be in school. An article on Less Wrong usually suffices.

Reading Kant is nice too for the impact on a wide variety of fields like Quantum Mechanics.

It'd be nice to do that, if only I didn't have to talk about it on a Mongolian fishing trawler enthusiast board.
pretty stoked for this
An interesting mix
