Could we talk about history of Japan a bit?

Could someone explain the samurai thing to me in detail. So basically, the warrior caste became bureaucrats, and during that time the whole bushido and honor became a thing because they swung only for practice and needed to justify their existence?

Another question about a later time:
In the late 18th century, so there all these super-patriots who had different views on how to conquer everything. Is this sort of factionalism where the really dysfunctional relationship between the Imperial Japanese Navy and the Ground forces comes from?

..other than that, let's discuss the history and military history of japan.

What was Nobunaga doing between Okehamaza (1560) and conquering Inabayama Castle (1567)? Did he just fight the Saito all the time?

>Is this sort of factionalism where the really dysfunctional relationship between the Imperial Japanese Navy and the Ground forces comes from?

No, that developed later, in the late 19th/early 20th Century. If we're talking about the massive difference in capability between the IJN and IJA during WWII, that arose mostly out of logistical politicking. The IJN wanted all the best resources in order to counter the quantitative advantage the US Navy held, because the IJN's strategic mission leading up to WWII was specifically to beat the USN.

>get saved from mongols via ocean luck
>Lose against Korea in the same way the mongols lost against Japan in a rash, poorly-planned naval invasion.
>Get butthurt and go all isolationist
>revel in shit for hundreds of years until America blasts its way into their harbour with ironclads and forces trade.
>creates america:asia edition
>Proceed to follow the same historical path that the United States took (japan is to Russia as the US is to Spain) by taking advantage of failing empires
>get fucked harder than any country ever with the worst K/D in airforce history when daddy gets back from his milk run

Theyre reactionary fuckbois towards whatever strong nation is supporting them because the population soon realizes that their culture is comparatively inferior and they embrace change.

India/Turkey/Japan, the axis of cucks.

Also, how was the Imperial Japanese Navy in it's beginnings. Didn't they manage to modernize their navy pretty nicely?

Californian, actually. We've got a ton of Japs here, turns out they get over forced internment camps pretty easily.
The thing about Japs is that they make the best white people. Chinese can never get the accent right, but Japs sound just as white and news-anchor-like as I do as a white male. Theyre really good at ditching their culture, most of them are visibly embarrased by their traditional parents and whatnot, theyre model immigrants, perfect little americans-in-training.

They basically looked around to find out who had the best modern navy, found the British Royal Navy and started working from there.
>>
>>590771
Didn't they basically do the same thing with the ground forces, importing instructors and such?
>>
>>590778

Yeah, the Imperial Japanese Army took cues from the French, and later also the Prussians when the Germans defeated the French in the Franco-Prussian War.

The history of Japan eh?
Well there was once a man named 一郎. He was ugly and said to be the height of three blocks of tofu. Distraught after his failed marriage 一郎 sailed off into the open sea and discovered Japan. It turned out that he barbaric natives were even more ugly and short than 一郎 and they crowned 一郎 as their ruler. But a ruler must govern a country. First, 一郎 needed a flag, so he took a piece of white cloth and drew a fried pancake on it. Envious of his design. He then went to develop cuisine. 一郎 was stupid and couldn't cook, so he just took a piece of raw fish and called it Sushi. Next, his country needed a language. 一郎 was mostly illiterate but he knew a couple of Chinese characters and replaced the ones he didn't know with squiggles. 一郎 then went off to have a lot of children which he named numerically as 二郎,三郎,四郎. 一郎 is still regarded as the ancestor of all Japanese.

Didnt know they even allowed you guys on the real internet

Actually most "our ancestors were from China" narratives in Japan are from the Japanese themselves.

Just take the fact that the Hata and Chosokabe Clans claimed descent from Qin Shi Huangdi.

Bushido and honor shit was invented in the 20th century.
Warrior caste becoming bureaucrats is pretty much commonplace worldwide.

Oh, it was planned. Nefariously.

So basically,

>be feudal Japan
>European gaijin have been frequenting your shores for the past few centuries and you've learned a lot from them
>Unlike Confucian China and Korea you're a bit more open to new ideas
>Meiji Restoration occurs, the Emperor is back on top
>Top-down full Westernization
>China and Korea look on, bemused by your apparent descent into barbarism
>Sino-Japanese War comes around, assert dominance in Asia at the expense of a decaying Qing
>Get some qt Korean comfort women for your trouble
>Russo-Japanese War, gain mad prestige at the expense of decaying bourgeoisie pigs
>At this point you're a world-class power
>Expand into China to complete your training
>US doesn't like that, cuts off oil
>Make a gamble, cripple the US' Pacific arm and hopefully convince them not to ruin everything
>They ruin everything

From then on it's recent Japanese history
>>
>>590638
Many samurai during the edo period didn't even practice martial arts. If you look at the famous swordsmen of the bakumatsu, many of them were born peasants or were lower ranking samurai
>>
>>592138
>They ruin everythng

They stopped Japan from being as incredibly shitty as China or SEA. It was bitter medicine, but honestly getting nuked was probably one of the best things to happen to Japan in several centuries.
>>
>>590638
Shogun 2 Total War tells me that the severe rift between naval and ground military arms of Imperial Japan came about because two separate domains/clans formed the cores of the two military arms and they started to exclude each other from influence in their respective services and the rift went as far back as the Meiji Restoration
>>
>>591945
This, and Japan was winning against the Koreans, even if they got blown the fuck out by Yi a few times. The problem is like WWII, there was no long term strategy to keep their holdings, and they ended up pissing off a major power by doing so.

>gambling in Japan is not allowed
There is a casino on almost every corner in Bunkyo, Tokyo where I was staying in Japan. No one really cares and there is a stigma with it cause it is seen as irresponsible and cause Yakuza are sometimes involved in it( In southern Japan at least) but overall no one really cares at all
>>
>>593079
>Yakuza are sometimes involved in it
>sometimes

There really isn't any even remotely shady activity in Japan that isn't at least overseen by the Yakuza at one level or another.
>>
>>593104
They really aren't. Just in southern Japan in like Kobe and Osaka where human trafficking is.

The Yakuza who run casinos in Tokyo are legit businessmen who play by all the rules and just play dress up Yakuza to have fun.
>>
>>593128
Yeah, but that still counts. Most of Vegas is legit through and through but you can bet your ass that the mob is still there.

The Tokugawa Shogun don't want any strong daimyo to challenge them so they institutionalized a system to pacify this daimyos and their military. All land become direct posession of daimyo, the samurai should live in their master castle or if they insist to live in the countryside should become peasant. The Daimyos obliged to live in Edo for a year, then in their own fief the next year.
