Apparently it's in the Slavonic Bible but not considered canon by the rest of Orthodoxy, or Christianity in general, really. I dig Jewish esotericism so the fact this one escaped me for so long is a bit surprising. Why did it only end up in the appendix of the Slavonic Bible? What's the history on that?

So how does the Orthodox church work? There's one near my area and I might go someday.
Do I have to go through some kind of confirmation before I can receive Communion or confess?
Is there anything else I should know before going to the church?

Do not recommend you orthodox confess. You should go. Just go. That's the only way to get started. I went to vespers first because I have anxiety about new people and it's a more intimate service with a smaller crowd, but you might prefer sunday morning liturgy if you like all the big singing and excitement.
Don't worry about doing anything wrong- the priest will understand. Try to talk to him after the service if you get the chance. If you're really worried, email the priest before you come in.
Not sure about confession but be aware only Orthodox can take communion. If you haven't converted yet you can't.

I'm not there yet myself, but you go through a catechumen process where they teach you church history and theology. That way they can be sure you're making an informed decision if you do ultimately convert to Orthodoxy. My priest told me it typically takes a few months to a year, depending on the priest in charge. Just as long as it takes for the priest to decide you're ready to be Orthodox.
But you're getting ahead of yourself. Start going to the church, speak with the priest, read Timothy Ware. See if it's right for you before you decide you want to convert.

also I'd recommend you visit an OCA church (if possible) if you're an Amerilard like myself. Greek and Russian diaspora churches tend to have most of their service in those languages, which is just fine, they're Orthodox, but it's probably easier to get into it if you can visit English services.

Its doctrine and practices have remained true to the original faith preached by God's earthly manifestation. I've spoken to people who saw the Holy Fire miracle in Jerusalem. There are Marian apparitions and other weird shit that have happened too.
