Look at it this way, if history remembered them enough to glorify them, they must have done something to stand out.
Even if its just performing a man's job in a man's world that still counts for something. Nowadays we are used to women in power, and therefor we retroactively question history's important women. We now hold them to the same standards as their male counterparts.And that's a good thing in our current time. But in their day the standards were different. Even a woman of high birth who lucked into a position of power could not afford to be weak in order to stay there.
