Because only a few Eurofaggots taught Japanese their art and they were subsequently banned.

Compared this to China, in which foreigners were welcomed (under strict surveillance) in court from the 1500's to early 1700's when they were subsequently sent home by paranoid Yongzheng IIRC

You end up with Chinese artists doing shit like this under their training with Italian/French Jesuits.

Done by Giuseppe Castiglioni, an Italian Jesuit in China in the service of the Qianlong Emperor. Depicting 10 purebred hunting dogs & their names, presented to the Chinese Emperor in an annual "dog show" by famed breeders within the Empire.

You have to admit the Qing were kinda stupid
>confiscate opium European imports, since way too many people are becoming addicted to it
>get BTFO by imperialistic England, forced to sign uneven treaty
>try to catch up to European enlightenment tech
>massive failure, due to the backwards state of China and no respect given to qings for not being han chinese
>continue to get BTFO by imperialistic countries in the 19th century
>eventually lose to Japan, that modernized not 20 years earlier
Their one big moment was being too much in a pain of the ass to split up China for imperial powers.

Stop making the terminology more confusing than it needs to be. They are Iranic. Indo-Iranian is a faggy euphemistic way of saying the broader Aryan(including Indics and Iranics, not to mention Dards &c) grouping. Stop describing Iranians with the label of their parent group. Khotanese were not Indian or Indic, so don't give them a label that includes Indians.

That's actually a Japanese Ship called the "Red Seal Ship"

Basically, there was this Japanese Law that only ships bearing a certain Red Seal can trade with foreigners.

Also its a fuck ugly mess of European/Chinese shipbuilding.

These things? These were Japanese ships. Though older Chinese river warships had the sameish design.

These are really just warships. Served no other purpose than to fight coastal battles. The Japs practiced boarding based naval combat for quite a long time, strangely never bothering to use naval artillery in a widespread manner. As such, Japanese wanted to have every advantage in boarding other motherfuckers' ships and therefore built their ships high.

Of course, the problem is
1) They were big targets for cannons.
2) Other Japanese ships were as high.

That's the Nihonmaru. An unusually large "Atakebune," which is a type of Japanese ship that is, well, like that: floating forts. Its the only ship with a name in Japan. Asians arent big in naming ships really. They're usually called after their commanders.

It was well and nice for boarding other ships but during the 1500's - the age of Naval Gunnery- it just became a big target. The Nihonmaru was Japan's Flagship during the Invasions of Korea and only had one battle under its belt: Myeongyang. It was holed and was subsequently sent home before it became a national embarassment by sinking.

There's a pretty lulzy japanese biography of Napoleon, written not long after his death. It had lots of weird illustrations, that could mostly be described as "how Japanese imagine European courts and their customs". I remember one picture depicting Napoleon roasting a British ambassador on fire (it was probably a misinterpretation of the execution of duke d'Enghien), and one portraying the return of Emperor's remains to France, with the carriage contaninig his coffin looking like chinese palanquin emblazoned with letter N.

Also, the you could really see Japan's superiority complex seeping through the descritpions.

Massive ships were only generally used for coastal or river battles. They'd break apart in open sea on a rough day.

You should really review what 'nationality' and 'ethnicity' mean before embarrassing yourself further. The state of India was invented by the Brits when they agreed to leave and drew a line between it and Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, etc. Of course, local agitators and politicians in each successor state lobbied for boundary lines and power, but this is all very much 20th century nation-state ideology at work.

All nations are invented as anon already stated.

>>439398
Historically just the same: 'Indian' isn't an ethnicity. You can save your pride by agreeing that it might be considered a grouping of ethnicities. Even then, there is no one single monolithic 'Indian' identity.

>>

There was a clear pan-indian identity before the british. It just didn't coincide with the modern borders of India, and therefore some fusspots may want to use a diferent adjective rather than indian to call it since "indian" is an exonym (but it is for both modern and ancient India).

Anyways, the majority of the peoples that inhabit in the seven sisters traditionally before the brittish annexation have not belonged to the indian cultural continuum and have not belonged to anything that can be identified as an indian identity or proto-identity like other parts of India and Pakistan did. Those peoples in those seven states aren't more indian that the burmese and the peoples under burmese rule, who were also part of british India.

This is what people means when they say "they're not indian", and denying it mindlessly for the sake of modern ideologies of integration nuances our understanding of the history of that region. It's as bad as applying to our vision modern indian nationalism (which this time is, indeed, something constructed after the british conquest).

>There was a clear pan-indian identity before the british.
Yea, but not really. Certainly not in a 'let's unify our states!" kind of way. That is a very 20th century ideal (starting in the late 19th century, as the idea of nation-states also swept Europe). As ethnic cousins of sometimes related cultures, yea maybe. I doubt the average illiterate hereditary gutter cleaner in Karachi really felt he ought to be in a single state with his 'brethren' in Madras or Cox's Bazar.

It was the British unifying (most of) the subcontinent that eventually led to some Indians saying "You knowing vhat Sanjay, vee could probably doing this ourselves". Mixed results, but yea. Apart from the occasional clay gains megalomania now and then from certain leaders and dynasties, most (or what we call today) Indians would never have conceived themselves as needing to be in a unified state or as the 'same people', which most Indians today would certainly not even say.

I've been Sikkim and met some northeasterners in Calcutta too. Most aren't Hindu, but when you see Asian-looking folks wrapped in saris and with bindis and full-on Indian accents, it is kind of amusing.
