Francis Fukuyama said that the Russians are corrupt despots because the mongols tyranized them so hard that corrupt despotism just became a part of their culture. Is this true or is Fukuyama full of shit? Is Russian brutality just a Mongolian meme?
>>
>>426989
It's a meme. Russia wasn't particularly brutal before the bolshevik takeover.
>>
It is not a meme, claiming Mongol heritage was common even for the last Rurik tsars as a way to gain more prestige. The oppressive autocratic police state and eternal hunger for clay is what mentally separates them from other Slavs.
>>
Fukuyama generally is full of shit. His 'End of History' essay is so short-sighted and west-centristic it makes me wanna tear the paper apart. I thought we dropped the teleological views on history after the dismissal of Hegel. Apparently political scientists still haven't reached that point.
>>
I remember someone saying ages ago that Greece has a culture of not paying taxes since they were under Ottomans. Back then they saw that paying taxes just went to the Ottomans so there wasnt any point in paying the tax. No idea how true it is though.

As a PolSci minor I should be offended but strangely I'm not since I feel no solidarity for this field at all.
>>
>>427009
I meant in the late 19th early 20th century you fucking moron.

Everybody was violent and cruel back in the days. The 30 years war happened in an area untouched by any tatar invasions.
>>
>>426989
Fukuyama also said that History ended in 1990, and that we'd all accept the American way of life now.
>>
>>427026
Good. That means you have a brain, and probably good methodologies.
>>
>>427045
Which we have in a sense. He's not correct in there being an teleology to it, but he's certainly right that most countries are moving towards becoming liberal capitalist democracies, with notable exceptions.
>>
>>427059
Anon, have you been living under a cock for the last decade?

Instead of shitposting you can explicate why and how I am wrong, but alas this is /his/.

DUDE MONGOLS LMAO
>>
>>427076
Yes, and as I said, "with notable exceptions".

And even though the majority Muslim states are either monarchies or theocracies, they are still capitalist, so they are not far off.

Since they already have capitalism, they will probably eventually get the culture that is associated with capitalism, i.e liberalism.

Russia has swung over to a proudly anti-western, anti-liberal system.

China has actually increased the centralization of power in the CCP since 1990, and considers itself to be an ideological competitor to the west.

Islamism is not going away any time soon, and has vastly expanded it's reach since 1990.

India is experimenting with various forms of anti-liberal government.

Africa has mostly decided China is right, and that you can have democracy, or you can have development.

Latin America is still seeing the spread of anti-western, anti-liberal socialism.

Even Fukuyama himself realized betting on the irresistible spread of western democracy was a bad idea, nearly a decade ago.

Damn. I didn't realize how crazy shit had gotten since the 90's until you made a list..
>>
>>427098
True, there is a new trend of authoritarian capitalism that has sprung up recently.

But this is clearly a response to how America has been behaving in the last 25 years.
>>
>>427098
>India has a change in government largely due to anti incumbency
>OMG YINDOOS WILL MASSACRE MOOSLIMES IN MODIS INDIA
>REMEMBER THE GODHRA MUSLIMS KUFFAR
>MUH MUSLIM BABBIES RIPPED OUT FROM THEIR MOTHER'S WOMB AFTER 3.141 WEEKS IN THE WOMB
>>
>>427110
But a key piece of Fukuyama was that America would never HAVE to behave like that.

You know, end of history. Liberalism has proven the only workable system in the 21st century, liberal democracies can and will always settle their disagreements in a cooperative manner. Hence, we're living in the last generation to see wars, power blocs, spheres of influence, etc. etc.

>>427120
Man, I didn't even say any of that. But it's very clear India is in a number of ways, losing it's focus on being the best little liberals to make Britain proud anymore.

>>427108
Oh, I forgot: It's also looking like Europe itself will say fuck you to liberal values, as the 'far' right consistently rises despite the best efforts to make them lepers.

And in the U.S. we've seen the rise of an unelected unconstitutional bureaucratic deep state that the president himself seems to have a limited ability to check.

can't you say that its authoritarian capitalism is the same thing as liberal authoritarianism? in this sense you can make the argument that the world is still embracing liberal values like meritocracy, personal rights (though not political rights) even if its not under a democratic guise?
>>
>>429126
Well it sure is a bloody cup of tea atleast!
>>
>>429224
>can't you say that its authoritarian capitalism is the same thing as liberal authoritarianism?
To do so would be to distort Fukuyama's argument beyond recognition, or to have to maintain absurdities, such as authoritarian capitalist states will never come into open conflict with each other.

Actually, those kids in the pic are not Mongols but Nenets, Uralic peoples living in nothern Russia - part of them live on the European side, part on the Asian-Siberian side. Later, some of them have migrated with their reindeer as far as to Kola peninsula, to Fennoscandia.
