My city is largely pro-Ukraine so it's safe from rebellions, but there are very frequent terror attacks from pro-Russians, and these come in the forms of home-made bombs or public shooting, but they mainly target police and military bases and factories- so overall it's fine.
The corruption is there but it's subtle. It's mostly a few criminals that don't get punished and our mayor, (Gennady Kernes) being "re-elected".
If you want to know an interesting tactic our current politicians use (my uncle works as a political journalist and has a lot of insider knowledge) is to create a lot of phony small parties to trick people into voting for "independent" candidates who will actually just do whatever the established major parties tell them to and thus drown out actual good candidates. I think that's a fairly major weakness in democracy.
