I have been here trice on a holiday, beautiful.
I have now decided to never post in an architecture thread again, since I realized that:
- 45% of you are "le only good architecturez was clazic lel modern is bland, cryztal boxez lel" retards, that won't know the difference between beauty (which is objective) and taste (which is subjective) and that will prefer to engage in "my opinion is better than yours" discussions, however irrelevant their opinion is.
- 45% prefer modern but have shit taste like Dubai, Gehry or Libenskid and wont even take the time to search for good brutalist buildings, for example, and then will just post the shite ones
- And just the last 10% is actually reasonable people that knows some modern architecture is shit and some classic architecture is also shit, and there's good classic and modern architecture, and that things change, and that using materials used 200 years ago is retarded, and that we are not limited to adding statues to a building to make it interesting, etc.
Fuck all of you.
>>409081
>having taste this bad
>thinking that the more beautiful classical architecture can't be built with modern materials
>>406007
>>404949
I think it would be hard to do if architects get hired to work on a lot by lot basis
several different people can own portions of a downtown avenue who have different tastes in what they want to build
it'd be interesting to see several lot owners agree to hire the same artist to build lots on the same city street when they all are set to have old buildings demolished at the same time to build new buildings at the same time...
but thats practically a stars-in-alignment scenario
>>409103
Why don't you fucking go to a farm in the middle of nowhere with your retrograde friends and live in anarcho-primitivism and build all sorts of overly ornamented unpractical buildings. Oh and while you're at that, you can also replace all light bulbs with candles and all purified water with water from a well.

>being this retarded
Brutalism comes from 'breton brute', which translates to nude concrete. So if it has pure bare concrete, it is brutalism. There's classic Brutalism (those weird buildings from the 60s-90s) and modern, like this one. On the other hand, the house that anon posted has absolutely none of the fundamental characteristics of International Style.

Actually, it's a prototypical International Style house:
>geometric forms with long clean lines
>white painted exterior surfaces where stone or concrete is used
>prominent use of metal and glass in the exterior; windows in long rows unbroken by concrete or stone
>smooth textures
>secondary use of blonde wood
It's not even real beton brut, since it's painted, and anyway, there's a lot more to the Brutalist style than that. Brutalism really entails:
>exposed concrete with natural brown tones and discoloration
>avoidance of large flat faces
>heavy use of ridges in regular or semi-regular patterns as ornament
>windows typically recessed and/or tinted; separated but in regular patterns
>basically zero use of wood
>>409581
