What is /his/'s opinion of Lindybeige?
I find him entertaining but I pretty much only visit him for his input in pnp rpg's.
He's entertaining and he raises some interesting points about some things. However, he's not actually a historian or archaeologist. He has a degree in archaeology, but he's only worked in film production and as a dance instructor as far as I know, and it shows. He's one of my favorite youtubers, but he can't be seen as an authoritative source on most of the stuff he talks about.
He spends too much time thinking and not enough looking.

He also has a tendency to talk about the vikings when he's describing the middle ages as a whole, like when he did a video about swords and declared that sword pommels were made of wood. Theys also a few times where he's described reenactment rather than actual history.

Well, that's what's good about him. Generally, he presents things in an entertaining way, and he can occasionally raise some interesting points. As long as you know his shortcomings and treat him with some critical thinking, his channel is good stuff.
And yeah, a lot of his weapons videos are based more on reenactment than actual history or HEMA. That's what Matt Easton is for.

He's basically an unapologetic dilettante about history. It's actually pretty refreshing because he tends to think for himself and he raises good points more often than not. He has a lot of interests and he's thoughtful about them, but he's not drilling down all that deeply into any one thing.

He did archaeology (at durham university, I gather), on classical greco-roman era stuff. He has absolutely no education on medieval history (and it shows).
His entire experience of Greek phalanxes consisted of 6 people in a line, 3 feet apart.
He's an exceptionally good, confident speaker. and that means he can put his case forward in a confident manner. that makes people think he knows what he's talking about. He's in fact a perfect textbook example of the phrase "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing"

He's apparently ignorant that quite a lot of late medieval swords have wide, tapering blades.
His entire argument against wearing it behind you, is that an assassins friend could stand next to you and stop you from drawing it. Quite why an assassins friend couldn't stand next to you and stop you drawing a regular sword, he doesn't say.
Cites ones he's seen in museums, disregarding that usually on the pretty stuff goes on display and that what survives is also usually just the pretty stuff.
The reenactor looks awkward, like he wants to get away as soon as possible, throughout.

The dichotomy between archeologists and historians is interesting. I have a few Penguin Atlases of History, and the introduction of the one centered on Antiquity (which spans from neolithic migrations to the fall of Rome) is essentially this historian taking a couple pages to rail on archeologists because they have a tendency to dig something up, particularly with prehistoric stuff, and jump to all kinds of crazy conclusions about it before historians can get their hands on it and really compare it to the context of the period. For example, we still don't know if that bone with the drilled holes shown in Cave of Forgotten Dreams is really a flute or some other thing, but the archeologist who pulled it out ran to the media with "It's a flute!" and got everyone excited before anyone made sure it was true.
