Does Ethiopia count as East Aftrica, or were you talking more about the Swahili coast area?
Western Africa (ish) - mosque of Djenne, similar to that in Timbuktu.
>>361255
>mosque of Djenne
That was finished in 1907 and made by the French
>>361240
Yea it counts, but at this point just post anything made by black Africans
The libraries of Timbuktu are also pretty top notch, although sadly in danger from Islamists today. No good pics, as they're scattered through the city. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timbuktu_Manuscripts
I'd post some pics of the historic areas of Zanzibar city, but I'm not sure if they qualify, as they were only really built in the 19th century, after the area had come under Arab influence/domination as part of the Sultanate of Oman.
Stop posting pics of timbuktu, it's like posting pics of NYC as examples of native american architecture.
>>361325
Timbuktu is in west africa
Why was africa this way, /his/?
>>361329
NYC is in America.
>>361349
It is

guy'ss point thought is that there were heavy Arab influences. That's why I was hesitant to include anything from the Swahili/Arab East African area. I think he's overstating the case, though. Unlike Zanzibar, etc., Timbuktu wasn't directly ruled by an Arab ruling class; the much better analogy I think is to Germanic/Celtic/northern Europeans giving up their pagan ways and adopting Christianity from the Mediterranean, establishing libraries, building cathedrals, etc. Derivative, sure, but nobody would say medieval universities of Paris or Oxford weren't centers of learning and legitimate achievements just because they borrowed from/imitated an earlier tradition.
With all that being said, yeah, Timbuktu is definitely the exception rather than the rule. I'm just glad nobody has posted """""""great""""""" Zimbabwe yet. (Lookie here, we can build a stone wall! There is no step 2!)
>>360977
I agree, has this nice cottage look.
>>361359
There is nothing wrong with my stone wall
>>361349
There is a difference with being influenced now go away
>>361342
What way? As in not as civilised? Same reason Minoa was more civilised than Scandinavia
>>361393
The French constructed the djenne mosque
>>361401
My point exactly
>>361412
I didn't post that
>>361417
Well then, you should read that post and remember it.
>>361359
You do know Great Zimbabwe is in ruins and that during it's rule the kingdom covered a larger area.
>>361431
Djenne existed before but then it got rebuilt but it was rebuilt under the direction of Ismaila Traoré, head of Djenné's guild of masons.
>>361389
Lack of intercontinental conquest, technology, you know what I mean. Getting beat into submission fairly easily.
Do you mean it has to do with climate (a goldilocks zone)? With scand being cold af and Minoa being, well, mediterranean.
>>361572
There was a fuckton of rebelling and opposition.
>>361599
ok, submission was a poor word, but they still got rekt.
