Funland is truly amazing
Washington was Cincinnatus.
>>359587
Nope. Finland lost that claim when Prince Frederik Charles of Hesse abdicated the throne as Germany lost WW2. A filthy republic couldn't possibly claim succession to imperial Rome.

whoops I mixed up my post referrals
>>359669
>Rome was a Republic first
Roman EMPIRE was not. It was a new entity altogether, there's no continuum.
>>359674
>There's no continuum
Historically illiterate it is then.
>>359679
First, that was my first post in this thread, just a heads up. Often retards like you think they're arguing with a single person.
Second, claiming the Empire is the continuation of the Republic is like saying USSR is the successor of the Russian empire. It's horseshit.

The defining aspect of Rome was its national identity, not tied to any single man or council. That's why the people of Constantinople called themselves Romans and why the Holy Roman Empire was even a thing. The Roman Empire made all of Europe Roman and the many seperate peoples carried on the light of Rome.

>the many seperate peoples carried on the light of Rome.

The Princeps was a continuation of the Republic to the point it retained many if not all the same institutions and positions of the Roman Republic. The big difference was that the Julio Claudians were now secretly in charge behind the scene. But even in latter Imperial Dynasties up to the Antonines, the posts, politics and precedents of the Old Republic were still important to the point of being cumbersome and the Imperial Administration still having to abide by them either in name or in actuality.

very true and I heard hitler had tried very hard to re-establish the roman empire. not how ww2 is marketed today. there's a reason for the roman salute, ya know. hitler saw himself as the leader of the new holy roman empire... the eastern slavs and the english speaking world had to to disintegrate the roman empire did not like it...theres a reason he gathered sympathy all around.

You'll find they are when Turkey gets kicked out of NATO

The Russian claim to being Rome's heirs rested on dynastic ties. Finland was the one success of the White movement and Mannerheim was a hardline anti-bolshevik, but the dynasty was still gone - and so was the Roman connection.

Fuck off with this. Instead of trying to push the america new rome meme like people have for the last hundred years we should boldly be proclaiming ourselves to be the creators of something never before seen. Rome was once just a shitty collection of hills and huts and ended up molding 2,000 years of history. We can do likewise and are already converting the world with our awful pop culture and soft power.
We're not the new rome, we're the first USA and we should aim to be so ingrained into history that hundreds of years after our demise people still bicker over who is worthy enough to be our successors.

This is true, but it doesn't mean the United States is not the heir to Rome: a global superpower and the primary exporter of culture in the world.

America is kind of shit though.

That's a funny way to say "the only state thoroughly governed by the will of the Yeoman farmer, the protection of which is solely dependent on an armed and motivated citizenry."

Putting statues of our presidents in facsimiles of Greco-Roman temples, as if they were gods is pretty fucking cool desu

What we really need to do is turn all of them into giant fighting robots.
Every time a threat to the nation appears, we just power up the founding fathers and the statue of liberty and go fuck shit up.
>>363201
It's cool until you realize it's all rooted in Freemasonic philosophy
>>359692
Nice false equivalency, you cretin.
