IMO it all comes down to philosophy one way or another.
Christianity itself is largely an answer/ continuation of the greeks and all its beliefs are expressed in greek categories. If you read about ecumenical councils all of them are debates about theology (which overlaps with philosophy in that age anyway).
As a result I tend to be inclined towards catholic thought since it reconciles its dogma with aristotelian metaphysics and provides logical arguments for everything
if a religion requires you to completely go against your philosophical positions, it's worthless. God really would be malicious if his truths couldn't be comprehended in any way

No matter what happens, there will always be people who know less about theology/philosophy/religion that some other people.
The people who know more(supposedly like the OP) could either choose to understand that we all have different interests and we spend our time differently or could claim they are superior(like OP actually does).
