Not really. The human brain saves on calories by making assumptions/educated guesses/analysing statistics.
Remember that intelligent decision making is an intrinsic thing. You can hold intelligent decisions in your hand, it is physical matter inside of your head.
It wasn't caloria efficient to be nearly omnipotent as humans during our evolution, but it maybe now. If we could spawn somebody with a fucking huge brain, we could hook them up to an energy machine and allow them to survive. Asiimov wrote about this in a book called foundations edge, where there was a ship with a computer that could analyze all of the atoms of a planet, including peoples brains, and predict the future based on the kinetic energy and statistical application of what the brains would do in certain scenarios.
tl:dr Isaac Asiimov is a shit writer but was a god tier scholar, and no you can't be completely without faith, you would die. It's part of the brain, humans have the option to not send anti bodies to defend their immune system and without faith a baby would die the moment bacteria touched it.
