How does it feels to be forced to know how to speak english (and to speak english) just because the anglos were good merchants, when some country with a far superior culture have very few speakers in comparison?
(It feels bad)

We actually all speak English because Britain lost a war to some peasant helped by France in 1783

>French replaced Latin as the most important language of diplomacy and international relations (lingua franca) in the 17th century. It retained this role until approximately the middle of the 20th century, when it was replaced by English as the United States became the dominant global power following the Second World War.[40][41

Ever wondered why the Germans in 1914 (height of the British Empire) talked to British officials in French ("chiffon de papier")?
Because even at the height of its empire, Britain wasnt relevant enough to make English the international language

It's only after WW2 than America managed to make English the lingua franca thank to its political and cultural (hollywood, rock'n'roll...etc) dominance.

You can thank us, bong.
We made "your" language great.

How was the lingua franca of the pre globalised world even measured? Surely they must be referring to Europe alone.

.
Nope
Japanese and Russian diplomats conversed in French
Byt anyway, Europe was the most relevant place or Earth

Who cares? There is more to culture than language and if the language was heavilly shaped around their way of life then they where probably spearchuckers.

Strange question. How can history disagree with the present situation?

If you're actually asking, which language do I want to be used internationally, I'd say Latin, because it is more neutral, and Rome is what unites the European people (and its past colonies).

Other countries have no ties with it however. So in the mean time we can use English because it was one of the first languages of the modern world, which became a global phenomenon.

English, you fucking awnsered yourself. Though it has more to do with American hegemony in this age of information and media, than with the british empire (though that had an influence too specially in the commonwealth and of course indirectly by making the USA an anglo country).

If it wasn't for this fact, the international language would probably be french, as that was the language shared by all the european cultured elites, and those who wanted to emulate the europeans.

The elites and intelligentsia were "globalised" way before globalisation as we know it happened.

How does it feels to be forced to know how to speak Indo-European (and to speak Indo-European) just because the Indo-Europeans were good charioteers, when some language families with far superior cultures have very few speakers in comparison?
