It already was, considering the Massacre of the Latins.

>>
>>320893
>>320922
A lot of the lore in the LOTR is basically Biblical tales rewritten to be fantasy. Silmarillion especially.

As for Beowulf, while it may not be confirmed, there is reason to believe it is about the Christianisation of Scandinavia. Pagan monsters that can't be defeated by Pagan man. A hero who may be a representation of Christianity, comes to destroy the monsters because only through God's grace can monsters and evil be vanquished.
>>
>>320922
I'm not the one who made that pick, but whoever wrote down Beowulf was a Christian, despite it being about pagans, since the narration references God, and Grendel is said to be a descendant of Cain.
>>
>>321056

>>
>>321056
Oh shit. You're right. I forgot Grendel was a descendant of Cain. My bad.
>>
>>321038
Except every character involved in Beowulf was pagan, including the titular Beowulf who slew Grendel.
>>
>>321056
Beowulf was pagan in origin and was shoddily contrived into a christian one.
>>
>>321112
Beowulf's belief was never mentioned in the saga.

>That the scribes of Cotton Vitellius A.XV were Christian is beyond doubt; and it is equally certain that Beowulf was composed in a Christianised England, since conversion took place in the sixth and seventh centuries. Yet the only Biblical references in Beowulf are to the Old Testament, and Christ is never mentioned. The poem is set in pagan times, and none of the characters is demonstrably Christian. In fact, when we are told what anyone in the poem believes, we learn that they are pagans. Beowulf's own beliefs are not expressed explicitly. He offers eloquent prayers to a higher power, addressing himself to the "Father Almighty" or the "Wielder of All." Were those the prayers of a pagan who used phrases the Christians subsequently appropriated? Or, did the poem's author intend to see Beowulf as a Christian Ur-hero, symbolically refulgent with Christian virtues?[91]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beowulf#Interpretation_and_criticism
>>
>>321112
Also it's a terribly loose analogy. I think Grendel's descendence to cane is mentioned once, it's very easy to read the whole thing and miss over that detail which would invalidate the entire message.

Something so crucial as that would be mentioned more than once. Also Beowulf is very unChristian. He promotes bragging and pride as high values which is very pagan unpagan. I remember I had an entire lecture using Beowulf's Pagan values to as a contrast to Christian values.

>>321279
Most probably yes. If you were going to make up a God, why would you make up a smelly hobo moocher who got punked after three years of preaching? One who was a follower of another dude before setting out on his own?

There were probably a lot of dudes like Jesus bopping around back then, like john the Baptist, and he got lucky and struck it big.

The Christ Myth theory is simply an attempt to completely debase christian thought.

Okay I admit that was a bad joke but I was listening a sargon of akkad video and he brought that up at one point, the stupid shit he was saying concerning that was driving me nuts. I just wanted everyone to prove me wrong. I've been reading this book lately.

http://www.amazon.com/Did-Jesus-Exist-Historical-Argument/dp/B008J9FFQ8

It's a pretty good one but I feel like it gets pretty boring later on since its mainly a deconstruction of mythicist arguments and just pointing out the ways in they're wrong. About half way in I was like alright this is getting a bit pointless to read because he was just going over the same stuff over and over again.

>>321363
I think that Jesus was probably an apocalyptical preacher who actually had apostles, got crucified, and the apostles tried to find meaning in his death ended up making all the gospels and stuff. I wish copies of the Q document were still around it'd be so cool to see the origins of that stuff.

It's probably something like this.

Also, another point in favor of historicity is how all of his followers fucking bail when he gets into shit, and only come back later. If you were making it up, you'd probably leave that out.

As for the missing body, it probably was missing, but rather than a resurrection, I suspect that the Romans destroyed it in an attempt to curb his worship, which may have been the biggest fuck up ever.

The Holy Mother is referred to as being crowned in Ap 12:1-2:

[1] And there appeared a great wonder in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars:
[2] And being with child, she cried travailing in birth, and was in pain to be delivered.

Typically, this is interpreted as a double allusion: first to the Holy Mother, second to the Church which is clothed in the light of the sun - Christ - and under her feet is the moon, a symbol for the ever changing world.

Regarding Our Lady as the Mother of God, Lk 1:43 gives a rather explicit reference:

[43] And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

I think apocalyptic preacher is off kilter a bit.

I think of Jesus as kind of the Jewish Socrates/Antisthenes, as he was more interested in morality than law giving or impending apocalypses.

I do, however, believe that the idea of the empty tomb can be attributed to destruction of the corpse in order to stop worshipers from venerating it, as that's been a human practice since time immemorial.

They did it to John the Baptist, Savonarola, and Osama bin laden.

I'm in RCIA right now and leaning towards Augustine. I come from a wealthy family and my mother raised me right, but I still ended up stealing for the sake of it, aggressively resisting Christianity, and I continue to struggle with sexual immorality to this day.

That said, I'm also considering St. Michael because my family has been heavily involved in the occult and I honestly feel like I'm being spiritually attacked sometimes. It can last for a long time, but calling out to Christ and Michael always ends it pretty quickly.
