Well, one of God's Title "King of Kings" is a ripoff of the Persian "Shahanshah."

Ancient Heebs were Persiaboos you know, when those cunts destroyed Babylon.
>>
Not a rip off; parts of it inspired by maybe

Judaism obviously originates from an earlier polytheistic religion and was influenced by Zoroastrianism. Most of the similarities that are played up by things like Zeitgeist and Religulous, like Horus having 12 disciples, are bunk though.

All religions and mythologies are influenced by other religions and mythologies. Judaism was not an exception.

Persians never destroyed Babylon.
>>
Maybe the book of genesis. Certainly not the letters to cities and empires.
>>
>>312720
Yes, almost all bible stories have other near eastern origins.
>>
>>312853
Are we talking about the same testament? Some of the books are just preaching to leaders of cities.
>>

There's cultural bleed in all religions. The Hebrews were for a good period of time nomadic so it's not surprising that its a bit more apparent in Judaism than say for example among the Nenets.

The old testament is not completely original content, plus the people who translated it and mistranslated it... Oh man

I think this us why Gnostic Christianity is very important to people who want to approach the Bible in the present day.
>>
There are a lot of similar stories to what is in the old testament, in pre historic SW Asia.
>>
The beginning of the bible is a bunch of stories and etiological myths that are either borrowed from or related to other near eastern societies.

Then you get into the stuff which is probably mythologized history, like Judges and Samuel.

It's important to realize that the bible is not a book, it's a series of books of various contents.

Yes, read Gilgamesh.

"The Bible" is not a unitary composition - it is a collection of books, by many authors. There are stories that derive from other cultures (noticeably in Genesis, but scattered here and there throughout), but nobody is accusing Paul, for example, of ripping off Sumerian mythology in his letter to the Romans.

The New Testament's a whole different animal entirely.

The bible starts to transition from probable myth to probable history around Judges.

Some things are from the Sumerians. Like the flood story which is from the Epic of Gilgamesh.

Interestingly one thing i makes clear is that we were dealing with a race of gods, so some things make more sense. For example there was one who wanted to destroy mankind but another who came to warn one of us and tell him to build a boat.

>In the oldest biblical literature, Yahweh is a typical ancient Near Eastern "divine warrior" who leads the heavenly army against Israel's enemies;[6] he later became the main god of the Kingdom of Israel (Samaria) and of Judah,[7] and over time the royal court and temple promoted Yahweh as the god of the entire cosmos, possessing all the positive qualities previously attributed to the other gods and goddesses.[8][9] By the end of the Babylonian exile (6th century BCE), the very existence of foreign gods was denied, and Yahweh was proclaimed as the creator of the cosmos and the true god of all the world.[9]

>The Battle of Opis, fought in September 539 BC, was a major engagement between the armies of Persia under Cyrus the Great and the Neo-Babylonian Empire under Nabonidus during the Persian invasion of Mesopotamia. At the time, Babylonia was the last major power in western Asia that was not yet under Persian control.

Unless you mean Babylon the city. Which is true, the Persians never actually destroyed the city.
