>>
mussolini had some wacky things going
>>
>>306601
Yep. A bit of context here for the craziness, because Bokassa, despite the theatrics was one of the more effective post-colonial dictators.

This whole thing is patterned on Napoleon's inauguration. The French were Bokassa's primary backer. The French also killed Bokassa's father when he was a child.

The whole thing is a slightly self-aware Freudian exercise in "Look at me, I'm FRANCE!"
>>
>>306625
That wasnt crazy. He understood to make a fascist dictatorship work he needed theatrics. That's where all the macho gestures and over reactions came from.
>>
What about Gaddafi?
Weren't Gaddafi and Amin also best friends?
>>
>>306702
Didn't he have some schoolchildren killed because they wouldn't wear uniforms his wife had made for them?
>>
>>306721
Gaddafi was the friend of anybody that was against the west
>>
>>306004

How come Pol Pot hasn't been mentioned yet?
>>
>>306736
Yeah. IIRC the contentions were over something about the uniforms praising Bokassa.

But that was typical for rule, and part of his horrid 'theatrics'. "Yes, I will kill a bunch of schoolchilren who fuck with me."

BUT because Bokassa offered balls to the wall craziness, he didn't rely on large scale ethnic violence and reprisals like say, Amin, which would have been super easy in the arbitrary shitshow that is the Central African Republic: a nation created because it's not good for anything.

And in fact, that's what's going on in the CAR right now.
>>
>>306721
I find it hilarious that Gaddafi was one of the biggest supporters of the African Union. He's so random.
>>
>>306827
Wait, looked up the details. Apparently the kids were annoyed that they had to pay for costly new school uniforms. Supposedly, the uniforms came from a factory owned by his wife.

The students vented their frustrations by throwing rocks at Bokassa's car.

This did not end well.

>>
>>306895

He made wearing glasses a capital offense, because people who wore glasses probably read and that was too intellectual and dishonest for his new perfect regime.

He was completely fucking nuts.
>>
>>307103
I believe Pol Pot's list of whacky offenses were:

>Receiving any kind of education
>Wearing glasses
>Being able to read a foreign language (Other than Cambodian)
>Being able to speak a foreign language (Other than Cambodian)
>Traveling outside of the country

Pol Pot received a university education in France which is what introduced him to Marxism. While in university he met several close friends with whom he would remain lifelong pen pals communicating with them in French, which he was fluent in. He was noted for his incredibly poor eye sight, which necessitated him wearing large glasses when he read French books of which he was an avid reader.

No, but he hated the global empires that he took part in. Ho Chi Minh was a Marxist and used his exposure to the West as a tool to liberate and modernize the Vietnamese, whereas Pot used the momentum and imagery of communism in SE Asia to establish himself and create a primitive ethno-nationalist agrarian state outside of the influence of the global empire. Despite this, Pot took US aid in exchange for killing Cambodian communists and fighting Vietnam. Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge is one of the most bizarre episodes in world history.

In what ways?
Nixon isn't nearly as bad as people make him out to be, it's all propaganda to divert attention from the fact
A. Nixon signed in landmark legislation such as the EPA
B. Nixon effectively ended LBJ's war- Vietnam successfully, normalized relations with China
His legacy should overshadow LBJ's, Carter's, and others so naturally the left has to character assassinate him. This is especially necessary when the left was attempting to portray the Republicans as war mongers during the Bush Era while attempting to sweep away LBJ's and JFK's.

That ceremony was hilarious. Centrafrica is a dirt poor country and was practically ruined by it, even with Gadaffi's financial help.

Like, there were around 60 000 bottles of Champagne and French Burgundy wine, 240 tons of food (of which a quintal of caviar) prepared by French cooks, 5 000 attendees, 60 Mercedes had been imported for the transport of the most important guests, his crown was made of gold with a total of 7 000 carats in diamants on it, the dessert was a green, seven layered cake above which were released 6 doves, etc...

After the ceremony (of which the only foreign head of state attending was the Maurician PM), he paraded through the street of the capitol Bangui but not in car. Instead as the biggest Napoleonboo ever he chose a horse drawn coach gilded with gold and bronze.

The horses had been imported from France specifically for the occasion from a prestigious stud farm in Normandy but they weren't used to the local climate. And so hot was the temperature that day that two of them quickly died, enraging Bokassa and forcing him to use his limousine.

Must have been fun.

>raised rent to the maximum possible, forcing everyone to live in shantytowns

I remember I had a rebel attack and I thought the people would be pacified enough for me to deport some of the crime bosses.

I then learned that uprisings and rebel attacks are two different things, and that if you let people have the right to bear arms, uprisings are a serious thing.

I managed to fight off both with my overwhelming number of guard towers, but out of the 800 people on my island, about 250 died in between the two back-to-back wars, triggering a massive depression.

Because every one of their ancestors were slaves, it's the only reason they're here. They brag their ancestors were kangs and shiet when actually every one of their ancestors were sold into slavery by their kangs and shiet. It's pretty funny.
And the Romans enslaving millions, while a major part of European history, has left no visible effect on us, as an American of (as far as I know) Germanic/northern European descent, I can assume many of my ancestors went through slavery among other hardships but it doesn't have any bearing on me. It's also impossible for my ancestors not to have been kangs because there were so fucking many of them, it's not even special if you find out you descended from major royalty.
Also my surname is a knightly nobility title, it's pretty cool.
