Has familial closeness always been a part of humanity or is family just a marketing gimmick invented to fuel another capitalist money grab?

Families were closer before the invention of modern electronic technology and entertainment mediums.

I just find that amazing.
I have nieces and nephews living in the same town I have met maybe three times. I don't think they know my name

You do know the first fucking societies in the world was the family unit right?

Like people are already "racist" to you because you're from another clan village back in the real early days.

"Family" as your extended family, or clan, has traditionally been a big feature in human culture.

"Family", as in you, your wife and your kids, is an american invention and much more recent.
It has to do with selling houses, because every independent young adult needs to move out and live on their own, etc.
In much of eastern Europe this culture isnt universal, and many extended families live together in big houses.

So first define what "family" means to you, and then we can talk.
>>

It was invented by some white man to sell soup or some shit.

The concept just escapes me. I don't even remember my 3 sisters when I was growing up, honestly don't even know them. I am skipping thanksgiving today because I don't care about it.
>>

Sisters, grandparents, nieces nephews etc.
I guess what I am asking is what it feels like to love your family and if this has always been important to people, especially considering how.early people used to die
>>

So you mean extended family, rather than nuclear family. The nuclear family, and in Europe the industrial family, can be argued to be capitalist constructs, although not intentional.
Extended family is natural, and has been with us throughout civilization.

Basically your extended family is people whom you are related to (and thus share the goal of having your common genes go on) and whom you live together with (thus sharing the goal of having your household prosper).
Since you work towards the same goals, you help each other, and you are sympathetic to each other's desires and problems.
In Roman times for example your family included your slaves, and your bastards. They didnt have equal rights, but they were family, and you did defend them as well as expected them to defend you. You had shared ambitions and fortunes.

Ancient Society by Lewis Morgan, 1877 and The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State by Friderich Engels, 1884, are your sources for a more evolutionary look at the family, how and why it came to be, and it says its mostly tied to economy and production of wealth.
You work with your family, and help each other out, and keep wealth inside the family. Your rich cousin is likely to help your son out in the future, so your genes are secured. By helping family members you ensure they or their offspring will help your offspring. Its an investment.

If you are allergic to socialism, read Polish Peasant in Europe and America or Centuries of Childhood instead.

Thanks, as a loner maybe this will help me u understand.
I have been by myself all day every day for 15years now except for 2 hours a week and have never really understood love
>>

Sounds like a personal problem m8. Tribal societies are incredibly close because those were the people who would have had your back, and cultures with a lot of traditional values place high importance on family. I literally see all my cousins who live in my town every weekend.

That's crazy to me. I have never even been to my sister's house, at their weddings people were unaware they had a brother.
I even send them a text once a year to let them know I am not buying any Xmas presents so no need to buy me.any.

Maybe it's things like this that drive your family away from being close with you. In modern times the family connection isn't nearly as important as it was in ancient times so whether or not you care is all that matters. If it's not a big deal to you then I suppose it doesn't matter.
>>
>>305854
Why would that drive people away? I am letting them know to save their.cash because they won't be getting anything from me. I am.not robbing them just giving them a heads up
>>
>>305736

I don't understand how you failing to have a family life makes you unable to conceive of the idea of kinships being important relationships to people for most of history.

Have you never even heard of dynasties? Noble families? Clans? Tribes? Almost all of these are based in "the descendants of ___" where their bond is that they're family. Hell, if you look at Abrahamic religions the main concept for the Jews and Muslims is that they're descendents of Isaac and Ishmael respectively.

The family unit is the most basic society we have, and extended families still had enough in common to create social alliances for mutual benefit. Part of this is just genetic, literally being inclined to do it because they share your genes and we basically exist to propagate them.

That's probably your autism that makes this idea so bizarre to you.
>>
>>305857

"Hey just a heads up you're not worth a dime to me so don't bother getting me anything because I don't want to deal with you."

If you end up not getting each other gifts naturally or you just resolve it at some point that's one thing, but if you just send them an annual text with your "reminder you're not getting shit from me" and don't get why this is a little stupid I don't know, man.

Is this what autism looks like ?

It is just being honest. I don't want to waste money on buying carp for others but it would be selfish to not participate so I just opt out.
>>
>>305909
Ancient Greeks believed they were all related. The Spartans believed they were all descendants of Herakles.
>>
Yes, family has always been important. Also OP reading your replies I can't help but wonder if you are autistic or possibly psychopathic?
>>
>>306024
No idea, never been diagnosed or anything, I don't think so but then again I don't really make.connections with anyone else so maybe. I feel guilt all the time so.probably.not.
>>
>>305926
And this is why you're not close to them, and they're not close to you. You don't have any desire to make them happy, or show them that you care. So they won't care for you.
