There's several angles to this.
1) When Asian models became easy to find on the internet, otherwise normal people started to become interested. If you actually went to Japan, you'd see that 99% (no exaggeration) of girls are insanely ugly. The super cute girls you see in ads and pictures are a tiny minority. White girls are far more attractive on average, but people get to see all whites, but only the top 1% of Asians, so people start to think they like "Asian girls", even though they only like models.
2) SEA are poor, submissive and hard working, unlike other third worlders, so they are sought after as mail order brides and prostitutes, and desperate losers have no real alternative.
3) Asian girls are usually more submissive and look younger. If you have fetishes in that direction, or have some kind of complex and can't handle normal girls, you might feel drawn towards them because of that alone (sexual fetishes respond to specific stimuli to the exclusion of a more holistic assessment of the partner, which is why extremely ugly girls can be popular in fetish porn: their looks do not matter, only the fetish trigger does).
