They were weird as fuck but I love them. Especially in the Classical period their art and architecture were amazing.
It's too bad people tend to just dismiss them as stone age savages. Considering Mesoamerican civilization began around 1000 BC, Classical Mayan civilization is basically equivalent with New Kingdom Egypt or the Minoans in Eurasia. The Mayans were easily more impressive than either of those in terms of culture, even if their technology was less advanced.
