What does /his/ think of the IRA?
Butthurt paddy fags who need to chill the fuck out
which IRA

Bit biased cause my family was heavily involved.
But they had very legitimate reasons early on, they were completely right to fight for the establishment of the republic.
For me it only becomes mucky with the issue of violence around northern ireland.
However it has to be said that many of those involved where from northern ireland, and were actively being oppressed. Violence can be expected of the alienated and oppressed.
But it is hard to say that all of the violence in regards to northern ireland as justifiable as the violence employed to create the republic in the first place.
Most certainly freedom fighters.

Since my own country was founded by a national separatist movement, I'm pretty partial to most other group that seeks to do the same. IRA, ETA, PKK etc they're all good.
I'm a British citizen, but I can understand and even sympathise with why the IRA did some of what they did. The police force was/is overwhelmingly protestant, so if you get beaten up by a protestant, who is going to get you justice, the biased/corrupt police force, or the bloke from the IRA down the pub?
Everywhere the Eternal Anglo goes, he brings suffering, selfishness and injustice.

as an English scumbag I would agree, I can imagine I would be the same if put in a similar positon
There's like 7 different IRAs OP, you have to narrow it down.
1920s IRA was a revolutionary nationalist army in the same vein of many nationalist uprisings in Europe.
1970s IRA were a reaction to suppression of Catholics in Northern Ireland by the protestant minority ruling class.
Modern IRA are just the equivalent of the Irish mob. All the ideology has been stripped away and they're just a criminal gang(s) with a sectarian bent to them.

In hindsite its a bad decision. Ideally your nation has diversified trade options and seperating can hurt that.

which one? The revolutionaries, the nationals, the anti-treaty, or the para-militarist/insurgents/terrorists/pro-unionists?
Respectively they're all national socialists (not the German ones) cause they're nationalists who are socialist, the old IRA were basically justified in what they did, the anti-treaty group was frankly unrealistic but had a good point.
The para-military groups that sprung up before and during the Troubles had legitimate grievances considering the shit Catholics in Ulster went through at the hands of the Protestant majority and to a certain degree were at first simple self defense organizations formed in reaction to preexisting protestant groups like the UVF, but were likewise completely unjustified in the scope and severity of their actions and are illegitimate entities thereby.
Honestly though fuck the protestants, they started it.

Could not disagree with Martin McGuinness' reasons.
