What killed the American labor movement? Why did workers and the general public stop supporting unions? Why did politicians stop caring about the American working class?

You can't have neoliberalism and a strong labour movement. The rise of one means a decline of the other.
>>
>>277806
Labor unions were trying to kill the idea of capitalism but anticapitalists wouldn't be caught dead doing hard labor, so it just kind of petered out. Besides, you have to pay them money just to be a part of it and if you're not they just look down on you for not being active in the community
>>
Because unions reached their goal long ago but have since grown into bloated monstrosities

Unions can get big and corrupt, but if you're seriously trying to say they're always bad by default you're just a bootlicker sucking up all the Reaganomics propaganda.
>>
Anecdotal evidence but I found out that people who were very conservative, blue collar workers, policement etc are very pro union when it comes to their unions. Its like every union is bad / communist / lefist / corrupt but not theirs! Their union is good.

Unions have historically been very socially conservative, the only distinction being that they believe in the right to organize and unionize their workplaces. Union members were bashing in the heads of hippies during the Vietnam War, its not until very recently that union leadership became infected by SJWs.

All of their demands were met meaning there was no point in even having a union (Or as much of one) anymore. So either the union disintegrated or it turned into a glorified corporation designed to suck profit out of the industry (See: Teacher's Unions and Auto Unions).
>>
Private sector unions have a hard time getting started now because of the negative attitude people have towards unions. Which is mostly brought on by the horrible public sector unions. Which defend shitty teachers and police officers.

socially conservative but economically very pro worker left.

though many leftist back then were very socially conservative, Stalin et al
>>
this is a vast oversimplification but

>What killed the American labor movement?
its own success. unions literally got everything they wanted

>Why did workers and the general public stop supporting unions?
being content, sheeple mentality, etc

> Why did politicians stop caring about the American working class?
the usual, greed, opportunism, apathy from the working class

tips leftdora

im 17 and anarcho-commie too, guise

oops i should add to that middle point that they actually get a bad reputation now for the points mentioned above.

unions = capitalist brownshirts?

it's the same economic class that backed hitler and communism
>>
>>277806
>What killed the American labor
Mechanization aka CNC machine milling

>Why did workers and the general public stop supporting unions?
Because the Mafia took them over. No shit, they literally took over the Unions and used them to bully/abuse the workers. Whether this was tacitly supported by the U.S. Government is up for debate but the fact remains that the mafia at one point could have halted all production in the U.S.

So after Bobby Kennedy took on the Mafia and rekt it, the Unions permanently had the taint of mafia about them. That spoiled public opinion of them.

>Why did politicians stop caring about the American working class?
They still do, we don't call our working class, the working class. Its the middle class. America is a country of bourgeoisie or at least we like to think so anyway.

We've been on a long, slow decline for the last 50 years. This is the future you choose.

>America is a country of bourgeoisie or at least we like to think so anyway.

This sums it up for me. America likes to hold onto it's optimism so hard that it will pretend things aren't happening so that it can keep being a nation of haves and soon to haves in it's own collective head.

And unions in many ways would be admitting "no, things aren't okay and we do need to fight to improve it"

The decline of America has nothing to do with unions, it had to do with the hippie movement which started to prioritize feels over logic. Those people then began to run the government, businesses, etc, leading to the decline.
