I've heard that a lot of the shady characters in the American government like Kissinger and a lot of the people involved in the Iraq/Afghanistan Wars like Paul Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld are influenced a lot by Plato's Republic and sort of see themselves as Plato's philosopher kings, leading the people towards a stable, technocratic, totalitarian New World Order.
