In terms of morality with foreign policy and pursuing war he was a pretty average 20th century president, with a bit of an added bonus of actually trying to prevent the US from getting into one. But he also had some achievements in progressive domestic reform, so he's a loooong shot from being anywhere near the worst, he's just the one that pisses you off the most.

I realise most of you will like him just because he's hated by leftist faggots, but let's stop being edgy for a second and remember that this guy turned America from a respected hyperpower at the apex of power and prosperity into a joke, and incidentally put the Middle East into endless war and the hands of the Islamic Caliphate for no good reason whatsoever.

He's outside the bounds of this board though, so better to say "worse president before 1990".

But it all started with the French Revolution
>>
>>249666

Objectively, he can't be called a bad president, mediocre maybe, I guess the right way to call it is decent.

The bubble and Katrina weren't his fault, simply because that's the domain of states and congress, not the President. He couldn't have done jackshit about it, the can just kept being kicked upstairs in both cases, until there wasn't anyone but him to take the fall.

As for the Middle East excursions. He had to go in Afghanistan. Dubya was probably the perfect president for his first term, in that he was able to galvanize the nation when it needed it. There is also some respect due for waging two wars without imposing war taxes.

As for America being a joke - without the threat of the Soviet union, it's only natural for the world to view the dominating hegamon less and less favorably.

Had he stepped down after his first term, he'd have been a good president, but the second was a blight on his resume and puts him in the "decent" status. "Worst" is off by several magnitudes.

Your argument is looking a little thin, bro. It was legal to discriminate against black people in the 1950s for being black ( they were also a lot easier to kill if they were too successful), now it is not, yet you claim that black people had it better off in the 50s than they do now. You are an idiot.
>>
>>254313
>no Equal Opportunity
Black unemployemnt rate climbed up at a HIGHER rate than white unemployment after Great Society shit was announced.

>no Fair Housing Act
Didn't solve shit. A racist still won't rent his property to blacks, he just won't be able to mention the reason why.

>KKK murders
KKK was a domestic terrorist organization, it's not like them murdering people was exactly legal before Johnson.

Also the housing policies in the 60s and 70s led to further ghettoization of black people so the exact opposite of integrating them into society.
>>
>>254313
None of what you say is wrong. However this doesn't negate any of the damage that the culture of dependency has inflicted upon the black community. By any measure, their internal metrics are worse than they've been in decades. In that sense, LBJ was just finishing the work of that fine old democrat party institution known as the Klu Klux Klan.
>>
>>254347
First off that guy you're replying to isn't me. Second, I specifically said they're worse off ECONOMICALLY. Enacting anti-racist laws and having preachy media tirades in the media won't exactly help them if they're poor as fuck, and money is more important than your feefees.

>>

Nice parallel, but honestly people hailing Clinton as the cool guy while simultaneously condeming Dubya as a warmonger are utter retards. American public is completely forgetting shit like bombing Serbia to dust over Kosovo because there wasn't a liberal outcry over it.
>>
>>254413
People like Clinton because he fixed the economy and left the US with a Surplus while Bush Jr ruined it. The American Public cares more about domestic issues than stuff abroad, unless they're affected.
>>
>>254413

While I see your point, bombing Iraq, a sworn enemy of Al-Qaida was about the most retarded, counter-productive and idiotic war they could have started. A thinly-veiled attempt at getting the fourth richest country in terms of natural resources. A cash grab.

Serbia is lightyears away from that.

Not even close. It's essentially about speeding up the V in macroeconomic calculations. ie: How many times a unit of currency changes hands on average. The V effect is huge. It multiplies GDP.

It does this by not taking people's money so that they have more to spend. Or, in other words, a larger supply of money.

Reagan's economic tax recovery act was total bunk and he had to undo a third of it before he saw any sort of improvement.

Supply side economics doesn't work. It never has.
>>
>>256795
The golden age of capitalism is directly attributable to WWII. America, Canada and Australia were the only nations that were able to come through with an intact industrial base. As such, it became impossible to overproduce. There was infinite demand for American goods and wages rose accordingly. In the late seventies, the rest of the world was finally getting it's shit fully back together and we could no longer rely on export markets. The changeover to a service economy was going to happen anyway and the middle class did phenomenally under Reagan. The black middle class in particular exploded under his administration according to that right wing, koch brothers funded think tank called the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Agreed. Reagan ruined this fucking country, got us involved in the middle east, and Dubya just made it worse.

Other contenders include
Coolidge, Harding, and Hoover.
Any Gilded Age president aside from Garfield.
James Buchanan
Harry S. Truman

fite me
>>
>>256831

Agreed. People tend to overblow Reagan's importance when in reality he was afflicted with Alzheimer's before he even entered his second term.
>>
>>259177
He was diagnosed in 1994. Stop repeating bullshit because it flatters your ideological preconceptions.
>>
>>259448

How about you sit down when adults are talking neocon. I've spoken to several people who either worked on his campaign or were staffers at his white house, and he was out of it all the fucking time, and went to bed at 9 P.M. every night no matter what international crisis was actually occurring at the time.

One person I met in college was an adviser on nuclear policy to several presidents, from LBJ up to Reagan, and he said Reagan's behavior constantly baffled him like none of his predecessors. Parrot the official party line all you want, but the evidence is clear.

Satanic trips of truth. How appropriate for Bush.

I'm a conservative, and intelligent, educated conservatives hate GWB for how he has derailed the economy, left the military overstretched and exhausted and told every lie in the book to get his wars in the Middle East to line the pockets of their oil industry friends. The obscenely rich got richer, the poor were ignored and the middle class had the blood sucked out of them. The entire world hates America now, and we deserve it.

I fucking hate GWB and the new Republican leaders. They're all facile, ignorant scumbags with no genuine conservative values at all. None. They just want to gang rape the environment, ignore the Constitution, subvert democracy, promote fear and superstition, deny people affordable education and exploit the working class and to turn the middle class into the working class.

I can only look back to the "good old days" of Nixon. That's how shitty American conservatism is these days. We went from Buckley to Palin. God help us.

by fucking far, regan. how anyone took that man seriously is beyond me, his facial expressions alone when he made speeches was unnerving and extremely disturbing. how can an actor be that bad at acting like a president? it all started to go to shit after regan took office.

anyone who says nixon is a moron, he was an asshole but a pretty damn good president.
>>
>>251607
>He dodges that shit like a pro.

He had plenty experience from the draft.

Pat Buchanan still publishes his thoughts. Paleoconsevartives are the only conservatives with any credibility left at this point.
>>
>>254185
Obama's hands are tied by a do-nothing congress. Its almost impossible for him to actually enact policy because of it.

Even when he did have both houses, the democrats were trying push through special interests rather than make good policy (Obamacare)

Bush simply allowed his cronies to run rampant and let Cheney run the gov't instead of actually trying to do anything.
>>
Any president in the years leading up to the civil war. Was there an outbreak of retardation in those years?
>>
>>262942
Actually, congress is more productive than its been in four years. It only changed when the senate changed hands.
>>
>>249038

Was definitely Woodrow Wilson. He is 100% the reason the U.S. is owned by International Finance (i.e. you know who)
>>
>>263125
I love how everyone hates Wilson. It's the one thing that can unite normal people and nutty /pol/ people.

LBJ, Lincoln, Wilson, Dubya, and Obama are my least favorites. If I were to try and be impartial, though, it would be Lincoln, Dubya, LBJ, or Buchanan.
>>

Because getting the black vote was worth losing 1/3rd the country that supported your party on economic lines? Yeah that seems legit
>>
>>260548

This. But don't forget the Bush administration prototype...

I'm not saying Ronald Raegan was worse than Bush but he was

A) A fucking hypocrite.

B) A warmongerer.

C) A liar and bad at it

D) Downright crazy in his later years.

Just listen to this:

Wow you sound so impartial.

Take your opinion and throw it in the trash. Reagan was a fucking awful president and I can say that as a conservative.
>>
>>269888
>Reagan was a fucking awful president
He's overrated.

>conservative.
Somehow I doubt that. He still has nothing on the sins of FDR, Wilson, Carter...
>>

>Somehow I doubt that
Look up paleoconservatism.

Oh. Okay. You don't matter and you will never like anyone who's actually in a position to do anything. Forget I said anything, you don't matter.

I bet you anything its some kind of badhistory meme like "no Lincoln was MORE racist than the South" or "It was a war of Northern Aggression. The South wanted to abolish slavery but the North wanted to destroy it economically."

Carter

A liar and a demagogue, but not necessarily a bad leader.
>>
The run of presidents between Polk and Lincoln was pretty bad.
>>
>>271552
Bush specifically asked for leniency on 1st amendment grounds.
>>
>>249038
Agreed on Wilson, if only because he was a pacifist shit-for-brains who made us weak internationally. And he let the French bugger Germany dry, since anyone with even a tenth of a brain knows the terms of the Versailles treaty were ridiculous and barely sustainable. And fuck you too Lloyd George for going along with that French shit.

Another term under Roosevelt would have been so much better for everyone involved.
>>
>>269888
He had one thing going for him:

He was not James Earl Carter.
>>
>>273442
Poor Carter.

Great person, terrible leader.
>>
>>273442
Well, you make a fair point...
>>
>>273435
desu I'd say the French's desire to split Germany up into different states was probably the only way to stop Germany
>>
>>249666
Way to poke the hernets nest...W is bad sure and certainly the worst in the last 50 years but all time? Hayes and Wilson were worse for sure
>>
>>249038
Did you know there are oogaboogas who want to remove all Woodrow Wilson tributes because he was "a racist?"
>>
>>254443
All of our middle east "Allies" had been begging us to remove Iraq for years. Iraq was a fuckup, but the end result was inevitable even without US intervention.
>>
Andrew Johnson
James Buchanan
John Tyler

If your answer doesn't include one of these three presidents you are woefully ignorant of American history.
>>
>>275830
As ignorant as I am, what was up with Tyler? I know he was only president by accident since lel Harrison, but what exactly did he do to drive the country into the ground?
>>
>>275873
He was the only president to be publicly disowned by his own political party while he was still in the whitehouse.

He had no political grace, alienated and embarrassed his own party with his ridiculous 'Virginia Slaveholding Aristocracy' persona and spent more time trying to court the democratic party to nominate him for his re-election bid than anything else. His only half-achievement was the annexation of Texas, but Polk, the democratic nominee, had already made that a part of his own platform so Texas was going to be admitted with or without Tyler.

It's unimaginable for a president today to fuck up so badly that his own party says "HES NOT WITH US ANYMORE".
>>
>>275906
Okay wow, that's pretty bad. Apparently so bad you never hear about him anymore bad.
>>
Calvin Coolidge was pretty bad.
