I'm no expert, but what I know goes like this:
>WW1 is happening, The Tsar joins in becuase fuck it, why not.
>Russian Soldiers unhappy, they don't really need to be here, getting killed, un-happy with the way things are going
>Russian at home feel the same
>Some dude named Lenin comes by and spouts out some hippy dippy non-sense
>They buy it, the madmen!
>So they arm up and start murdering everyone
>Even the Tsar's little girls, for no real reason
>They exit the war after taking power.
>People happy for a good... few years
>WW2 rolls around. Lenin is gone
>Stalin in power, kills fucking.. everyone involved with the actual revolution of 1917-18
>Sends millions to die against the Germans, doesn't really care about them, only wants Germany to GTFO
>Let's millions starve to death in Siberia and other places, cuz fuck it
>Kills/gulags/dissapears anyone who disagrees with him
>People suddenly don't really like communism
>Today happens
This is more a general history, but the reasons for the 1917-18 revolution were basically Hippy stuff and being mad at war.

>civil war of 1918
Civil War lasted until 1920-1921, and was the the peak in 1919.
>Red pill me
There is nothing to red pill about, Reds won because they controlled core regions and managed to field much bigger armies. At the same time the Whites failed to establish clear vision of post-war Russia, postponing major decisions until after the war, and because of this were unable to gain popular support from common Russians and ethnic minorities.

Actually, it was Germans who helped Lenin into Russia and financed Bolsheviks because he agitated against the war. This doesn't mean Lenin was a German agent, he had his own agenda, but saw no reason not to take help from Kaiser, considering he hoped to eventually ignite revolution in Germany itself. "Capitalists will sell us the rope we'll hung them with".
The tsar abdicated and stopped being relevant in February 1917, a year before the civil war started. There were no royalist force during the war, enemies of the Reds hoped to establish western-style democratic republic via referendum.

right up until here, then what happens is

>literally everyone is sick of the Tsar. Commies, socialist, anarchist, republicans

>all these groups cant agree on anything other than the Tsar needs to go.

>Tsar leaves under the idea that its better to just give up power than stubbornly hold onto it and end up getting slaughtered by his people a few months later.

>They form a republic in Russia, but now that the Tsars gone, all the tensions of all these groups comes back

>Anarchist, Socialist, neo-monarchist ect all arguing with this new democracy

>Big swining dick Lenin just barges in and says "Fuck all of you, Russia is communist now"

>They all start fighting against the communist, but they also fight against each other

>Lenin and the commies beat them all

>Lenin then starts killing everyone that fought against them and people who didnt believe in him enough
>Lenin fears him #reking them will make the monarchist have a good support group

>decides the only real way to prevent them from winning is to kill their king and his whole family so the monarchist have no real reason to fight on

To put it in context, the Tsar was being held in Yekaterinburg city in the Ural region, and the Whites were advancing on it, so it was more of an emergency thing, not planed execution. Tsar had no real influence but he could be used by Whites to gain some legitimacy and support, especially with foreign powers, so Lenin decided it's better to execute him than to let him support the Whites.
Btw provisional government actually asked the British in 1917 to take the Tsar family as a refuges, but king Georg refused to let his cousin in for some reason.

sociopathic leader who thought Russia would just burn into cinders after their civil war and removing one more potential rival in their desperate struggle to remain number 1

Even after Lenin secured power and won the civil war, there were still little skirmishes until his death. There were a bunch of farmers and peasents who rebelled against the communist once they realized they kind of just bullshited them into supporting them.

Also, after the assassination attempt on Lenin, he got REALLY paranoid and started his own purge and was doing crazy shit like having people killed if they did shit like dropped a picture of him in the mud. I think people liked Stalin because there was at least a method to his madness, at least in comparison to Lenin

George was afraid of a similar thing that happened in Russia happening in the UK. Why take in a King who the general public didn't care much for and was especially hated by British Socialists and Communists? So, as to not potentially face a ton of public backlash, he decided to leave the Tsar and his family in Russia and hope that they didn't get killed.
But then they were! The absolute madmen!
Also, gonna post this here. An account of the Romanov's execution; totally botched and brutal.

From Viktor Netrebin's account

"The family of Citizen Romanov went into the room and arranged itself across the wall then we entered. Nicholas stood in front of Alexei. As I looked over my comrades' shoulders, I saw Alexei, sickly looking and waxy, watching with wide, curious eyes as he followed our movements. I suddenly thought how very short his sad life had been, and I silently prayed we would all be good shots.

The shooting was complete chaos. Vyrubova [sic] tried to protect herself with the pillows. After the first shots, I saw Alexei frozen in his chair, and his ashen face was covered with his father's blood as he sat there, unmoving in terror. One of the younger daughters died when she was shot in the back. Comrade Ermakov finished off a daughter by stabbing her in the chest over and over, and I remember Comrade Yurovsky shooting Tatiana in front of me; her head seemed to explode in a shower of blood and brains. The scene was sickening: the room was chaos, with blood and body fluids and brains all over the floor, and several comrades got sick at the sight."

this would be a shit response even if the OP asked for a brief history of Russia in the 20th century

The shooting was literally like something out of a black comedy sitcom. It was very badly thought through. The family was brought into a very small room in the basement on the pretext that they were being evacuated in the face of the advance of the white army towards Yekaterinburg. While the family waited for a "transport car", the executioners were drinking "bravery" AKA vodka. After some 30 minute wait the executioners finally entered the room and read the order. Czar was shocked. After having repeated the order, the lead executioner shot the czar, followed by everyone else opening fire. The shooting was random and chaotic since they didn't designate targets to specific executioners. They just pelleted them all. Since the room was so small and the walls were made of stone, the noise was extremely loud and the smoke filled the entire room so that nothing could be seen. Amidst this confusion the doors were opened. After the air cleared it was discovered that half the targets were still alive, whimpering and twitching on the ground. For example the son, sitting in his wheelchair, dripping with blood, was still looking around, scared. It turned out his clothes were full of valuables and jewelry that somewhat spared him. He was shot in the head once. The rest were simply stabbed to death by bayonets. The whole incident took 20 long minutes. A simple execution. Twenty fucking minutes. The executioners, shocked at what they'd just seen and done, stumbled outside and some of them vomited on the spot. They managed turning a simple gun-to-head execution into a complete gorefest of a horror show for everyone involved. Truly an analogy for what was to become of their whole endeavor in the form of the USSR.
