>Christianity (by way of Judaism) establishes a day of rest

>people are historically expected to not sleep in, and go to church on sunday morning, their one day off

Thankfully...If it wasn't for that reason, those poor souls on the XIX century would have to go to work as well.

Eh that's why we need to thank organized labor for getting us a 5-day work week and standardized 8hr work day.

That's why we fought the war for saturday

>unironically complaining about the amount of work
>probably doesn't work to actively subvert industrial society and evangelize it's disastrous effects on the psyche and body of the human race, not to speak of the environment
>probably doesn't even send pipe bombs to government employees and engineering PhDs
LMAO
>>
Sitting in church sounds more restful to me than manual labor. Good for your soul, too, if you're into that kinda thing.

Not to mention for a lot of Christendom's history the church was basically the community center. So you went and hung out with all your fellow peasantbros (under the watchful eyes of the clergy of course).

>>

Are you that lazy and ADD ridden you can't stand walking to a church and sitting there for a few hours?
>>
>>1412960
If you work 6 days a week, you want to spend your only free day doing something fun, not going to church

But you wouldn't understand that you NEET
>>
Nowadays we have a lot more shit we 'could be doing', but I could imagine if you couldn't read, didn't have TV / internet, etc. then going to a church to sing songs, listen to stories and feel better about your immortal soul doesn't sound that bad.
Gotta remember that people weren't always the cynical atheist fucks we are now.
>>
>>1412973
>calling me a NEET when it's obvious you're too fat and lazy to walk to a church every sunday
>>
>>1412960

OP here. One of my least favorite things about the human experience (leaving aside the more serious things like war, death etc) is how you typically have to rise at a predetermined time on a regular basis, to go to a place and do things, all on a timed schedule. So yes. Also bowel movements are pretty undignified, those kinda suck too.

Hows being a faggot working out for you guys?
>>
>>1413020
In olden times gathering alongside your entire village together in a church and doing nothing but sitting and meditating would be pretty comfy, then on the way home talk and gossip with your friends
>>
>>1413023

Where did I imply either of those things?
>>
>>1413020

Most people are actually happier and less stressed when they have a relatively consistent routine.
The grass is always greener, though.
>>
>>1412934
Ehhhh you can argue that is as much a result of decreasing need for workers. Poor people can't find enough hours to work.
>>
>>1413224
in 2016 yes, but not in the nineteen teens and twenties
>>
>>1413233

Yes in the 19 teens and 20s. Work hours were in decline before labor unions and progressive lawmakers took credit for the decline.
>>
>>1412920
The Sabbath is technically on Saturday

And people are "expected" to go to church on Sunday no where in the Bible

>humanity can live in perfect blissful splendor without fear of hunger, boredom, or even death
>JUST DON'T EAT FROM THIS TREE OKAY? IF YOU DO IT WILL REVEAL TO YOU THE KNOWLEDGE OF UNGODLINESS AND IF YOU DO THAT YOU'LL NO LONGER BE DIVINE AND BE FORCED TO WALK THE EARTH AS MORTAL CREATURES
>say fuck it and defile the tree anyway despite having literally anything you could possibly want
>curse all of your descendants
>be God
>despite warning them that this miserable future awaited them if they disobeyed you, and being totally undeserving of it, you decide to redeem all men on earth
>realise no amount of pathetic animal sacrifices will ever make up for the horrible betrayal
>decide to send your only Son to teach them to love each other and redeem the human race
>Son betrayed by his closest human followers, condemned to a sensless, humiliating, and excruciatingly grueling death
>Son still manages to find forgiveness for his murderers while they sadistically laugh, jeer, beat, spit and stab him; the same people who not so long ago celebrated his arrival
>endures pain beyond comprehension, witnesses the bottomless depths of human cruelty and savagery
>Son presents himself on behalf of the human race as the ultimate sacrifice, redeeming them
>return 3 days later, not to kill, maim, or destroy the civilisation of those who betrayed him but to tell his followers to spread his simple message, that so long as you accept him as your saviour you are welcome to everlasting peace in heaven

God offered them the choice, he always knew they wouldn't be able to help themselves but despite that he respected them enough at least offer it anyway instead of just casting them into the dark

Odd. Because they sure aren't in decline in countries with no labour laws. China is getting better but it actually has very strong unions.

I would rather be locked in a room for a year with a rabid Muslim, Christian, and California """"""Buddhist""""""" all at the same time than spend a single day in the company of a nihlist. We get it, you want to die like a reductionist dog in the mud, but you aren't taking me down with you.

Or maybe you can.

>you can't enjoy a nice meal if you haven't eaten shit

Sure it helps you appreciate it, but who says you need help appreciating it when you're eternally blissful?
>>
>>1413498

Presumably some brat who calls himself a Buddhist because he meditates sometimes and Buddha is like super peaceful dude.
>>
>>1413498
White Americans have this unfortunate tendency to pretend to be buddhist because they read the Wikipedia and thought it sounds super epic and could totally supplement their personality and make them super duper unique.

Oh yeah, they also know literally know nothing and don't even make an effort to understand the religion or philosophy. Not even a single bit. They also live the same hateful, decadent lives they did prior to their discovery that buddhism is totally epic #nirvana
