Yo /his/
A buddy and I will be running around Italy for a week. Where are some places to see history on the Roman Legions? Culture is fun and all. Colosseum, Pompeii and all that. But we're keen on the military side of history. Where should we look?

Don't know much about military places to visit but you can look at of the aqueducts that are still standing.

Romans used to think that armies should stay in the borders.
There should be some nice museums about them anyway. But we should wait till some Italian arrives.

Weren't legions forbid from entering Italy (except to defend it) for most of Roman history?

Things I would like to know more about
OP here. Some medieval castles would be neat too. I do know they were quite innovative in their designs such as pic related.
take a metal detector with you. go through known battle paths and areas. you may find some roman sheckles and goodies.

The Castra Praetoria in Rome is a good place to see. The Aurelian Wall obviously. Maybe Ravenna.
There honestly isn't much obvious on display when it comes to Roman military history outside of things like Hadrian's Wall.

Was often disregarded, and the Praetorians were stationed in Rome under the empire. Then under Septimius Severus 3 new legions were stationed there. Then gradually Italy lost its privileges and more legions were posted there.
