Periodization is a pretty Eurocentric thing, so I started thinking about ways to better divide the ages of human history according to human world-wide discoveries and real life-changing events.

So far I came up with:
The discovery of fire.
Agriculture based societies.
Discovery of intercontinental sea routes.
Industrialization.

I feel that there's a considerable age gap between 3 of them, and I feel that perhaps the discovery of intercontinental sea routes is just a stage of a process that started with the first trade routes and continues now as space exploration and therefore souldn't be considered as a defining moment of human history like the other 3.

What do you gues think?

OK discovery of fire is so far back I think it kinda stupid to include it.
I think my division would be
>Homo Sapien expansion from Africa
>Farming/Domestication
>Metallurgy
>Industrial Revolution.
All those funded tally changed humans I was not sure whether to include large trade routes like you.

>the singularity expands in an explosive fashion forming the early universe
>release of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice
about sums up the most important accomplishments

>Periodization
Except it's fucking not. Periodization has always been relative and serious historians do not use terms like "Medieval China" or some shit.

They tend to use the LOCAL TERMS for such periods.
>Sassanid Persia
>Heian Japan
>T'ang China.

Yeah, this. You can't pin the history of the whole world down to a simple linear scheme, you have to differentiate between regions and cultures.

Do the likes of the Chinese ever periodize their history?

It's like you have to memorize each and every dynasty or something.
>>

I don't think it's that hard if you're Chinese who lives in China surrounded by Chinese things. One of the peculiar ways of their periodization, though, is the fact that basically everything before Sun Yat-sen is considered ancient history there. Or at least that's what a Chinese student I studied with told me.

Yes.
>Ancient
>Imperial
>Modern
That's it.

You have to memorize the dynasties because those three divisions occupy fuckhuge divisions of time.

That's how the Chinese periodise their history. They divide it based on the ruling dynasty of that time period. Even modern China tends to divide it's modern history based on the head of the CCP - "Mao"-era China vs. "Xioping"-era China.

three of your defining historical moments are actually prehistory, the fourth is weak by your own admission. so in terms of recorded history, you're just dividing it into the pre- and post-industrial eras.

Addendum: But if you want to be Anal about it
>Ancient China
Shang Dynasty
Feudal China (Zhou Dynasty, Warring States)
>Imperial China
Semifeudal China (Qin, Han).
Era of Fragmentation (3 Kingdoms, Northern Southern Dynasties)
Renaissance China (T'ang & Song)
Mongol invasion.
Late Empire (Ming & Qing).
>Modern
Republican China (Sun Yat-Sen, Warlord Period. WWII.)
PRC/Taiwan.
