World war ii is pretty surreal when you think about it long enough. All that shit happening on such a scale for so long is hard to imagine in today's context. People actually committed suicide when they learned they were disqualified from serving in the military. Think about that shit happening today.

it would still happen. Those suicides weren't necessarily because everyone was a brave manly man who wanted to kill gerries. They happened because in a town of 5000 people there might be 1-2 ineligible males of fighting age. News about dead husbands and fathers would roll in slowly and the bereaved relatives would just go outside and see those 2 guys laughing or drinking beer or something. The whole town would hate them
