Αγαθος is not per se the same as kαλος. Hence the Greek ideal was kαλοkαγαθια (kαλος kαι αγαθος).
As I said, Plato argued for a relation between both concepts.

kαλός is used in morality like the English word "good", as in "good" vs. "evil" (kαkός). The Philokalia (which is to Orthodoxy as the Summa Theologica is to Catholicism), for instance, means love of the good, but could equally be translated as "love of the beautiful"
Nietzsche's Genealogy of Morals discusses the term kαλός in some depth, actually her intended to contrast with the pagan conception of "good" as opposed to the Christian conception ("good" vs. "bad" as opposed to vs. evil is also from this, since he sees kαkός as meaning "bad" in a way distinct from the Christian conception of evil, since means cowardly, ugly, base, etc.

ᾰ̓γᾰθός is a less strong term, it means good in a more practical sense, like not being a spendthrift. If you were to describe someone who was wealthy, this is the term you might use for someone who accumulated their wealth through trade as opposed to someone who was nobility, which kαλός would describe.
