They survive often not due to correctness or applicability, but rather according to traits which enable reproduction.
Consider an ideology that preaches to its followers "be fruitfuil and multiply" versus one that preaches celibacy.
The population of the first ideology will grow faster.
However, the rate will be cancerous, and the ideology will run the risk of self-contamination through misinterpretation. Everyone will fuck like bunnies to the extent that there is no central authority on what's what and the ideology dissolves into schisms.
Meanwhile a smaller-population ideolgy might thrive and survive under these conditions if on its toes, scattered, and deeply rooted in its own dogma/intelligentsia. If the average adherent knows a lot about the ideology and its enforcement and the nuances of survival, it might not matter so much of the followers are churning out kids.
